PALM SPRINGS, Calif. – As Round 1 of the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour’s (PWVT) PBR Palm Springs at Acrisure Arenaconcluded on Friday night, Trace Redd (Malad, Idaho) was victorious.

Being one of only six men to successfully conquer the animal athletes of the PBR, the 18-year-old rookie cowboy went jump-for-jump aboard Monkey Business (Hawkins Bucking Bulls) for an 89-point ride, clinching the Round 1 win. For his round win, Redd earned 28 Velocity Global points for his round win and heads into Saturday’s Round 2 leading the charge.

Dustin Martinez (Canjilon, New Mexico) secured second place in Round 1 courtesy of his action-packed matchup with Smoked Down (D&H Cattle Company) for 86.5 points on Friday night. In addition to sailing into Saturday’s second round, Martinez earned 18 Velocity Global points.

Brazilian cowboy Ederson Santos (Ilha Solteira, Brazil) and California’s Kyle Eaton (Chico, California) tied for third place in the round with matching 84.5-point ride scores.

In the opening round of the weekend, Santos, who currently leads the PWVT standings, was paired with Happy Hour (Hawkins Bucking Bulls) and was in control from the moment the chutes flew open.

California’s own Eaton punched his ticket to Round 2 on Saturday night aboard Misunderstood (Julio Moreno Bucking Bulls).

Santos and Eaton each collected 16.5 Velocity Global points for their efforts.

Colton Dougherty (Woodburn, Oregon) rounded out the Top 5 with an 81.5-point ride aboard his bovine opponent Pay Back (Walking Lazy J Bull Team).

In addition to punching his ticket to Round 2, the cowboy earned 15 Velocity Global points.

Velocity Global points contribute to the Velocity Global Standings and determine which new riders are added to the elite Unleash The Beast throughout the season. The Top 3 Velocity Global riders who have not already qualified are also invited to the PBR World Finals in May.

PBR Palm Springs will continue at Acrisure Arena on Saturday, March 16, at 7 p.m. PST for Round 2, immediately followed by the championship round.
