FORT WORTH, Texas – At the 54th iteration of the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Stockyards Showcase inside the iconic Cowtown Coliseum in Fort Worth, Texas, home of the PBR World Finals Elimination Rounds and Ride for Redemption, Lucas Fideles Souza (Barnstable, Massachusetts) netted his third PBR victory.
The 30-year-old cowboy roared out of the gates and won Round 1 with an event-high 86 points on Elkins 093 (Philip Elkins) to take command of the event heading into the final round.
There, Souza, a rider for the Nashville Stampede on the separate PBR Camping World Team Series, was thrown from his perch aboard DRTB 708 (Dakota Rodeo/Troy Bradshaw) in 2.32 seconds.
The victory garnered him 46 Velocity Global points.
In second placed was Joao Henrique Lucas (Bastos, Brazil).
The veteran cowboy got off to a hot start, riding Elkins 876 (Philip Elkins) for 83.5 points but was later bucked off by Riot Control (Dakota Rodeo/Troy Bradshaw) in the final round to end his bid for the event title.
Lucas left Cowtown Coliseum with 33 Velocity Global points.
The last spot on the podium belonged to Nick Tetz (Calgary, Alberta, Canada).
Looking to punch his ticket back to the premier series, the Canadian cowboy rocketed out of the chutes on 924 (Dakota Rodeo/Troy Bradshaw) for 82.5 points.
Paired with CMSR 27 (Stockyards Pro Rodeo) in the final round, Tetz initially sat tall aboard the powerful bovine competitor before losing the rope after 3.07 seconds.
The bronze finish earned Tetz 22 Velocity Global points.
The final qualified ride of the evening belonged to Ederson Santos (Ilha Soteira, Brazil).
He barely hung on to Elkins 903 (Philip Elkins) for 79 points in Round 1 before being bested by his pen mate, Elkins 592 (Philip Elkins), in 3.84 seconds in the final round.
The 1-for-2 performance garnered Santos 17 Velocity Global points.
Velocity Global points contribute to the Velocity Global Standings and determine which new riders are added to the elite Unleash The Beast throughout the season. The Top 3 Velocity Global riders who have not already qualified are also invited to the PBR World Finals in May.
In a dominant bull pen that allowed just four qualified rides, Elkins 800 (Philip Elkins) proved the most rank, quickly dispatching Keyshawn Whitehorse (McCraken Spring, Utah) in 1.94 seconds.
The PBR Stockyards Showcase returns on Thursday, March 21. Action inside Cowtown Coliseum will get underway at 7:30 p.m. CT.
PBR RidePass on Pluto TV will offer re-airs and on-demand replays of every PBR Stockyards Showcase event. PBR RidePass is available on desktops, laptops and mobile devices via www.pluto.tv. Click here for on-demand PBR programming.
