Brady Fielder’s positive attitude, consistent finishes paving way to World Finals

Ranked No. 10 in the world, the Australian's cool, calm and collected approach is paying off.

By James Youness

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – On a weekend where Australian Brady Fielder posted the event’s highest score, it was rookie Caden Bunch who exited Fiserv Forum with his second win of the 2024 Unleash The Beast season.

As the only man to record two qualified rides on the weekend*, the 20-year-old rode his way into the tour’s Top 10 en route to taking home a quality 118 UTB points and the weekend’s biggest check at $46,163.

Well, technically both John Crimber and Brady Fielder made the 8 during Saturday night’s bonus round (which featured six riders battling it out for cash-only prizes, as the tour was forced to deal with 10 riders missing the event due to travel complications).

But with the improv format awarding no points, purely meant to put on a show and further entertain the tour’s dedicated fanbase while getting some extra reps out there, the duo’s efforts counted only in the momentum books.

Which is better than nothing!

“It is a little disappointing, but a little extra money doesn’t hurt,” Fielder shared with a laugh Sunday.

Taking home $4,766 for his night-one efforts, he paired up with a popular bull in Mike’s Motive to get the crowd on their feet. Scored an event-best 90 points for his 8 seconds of work, he decided to make the most of the moment rather than dwell on its odd timing.

“Yeah, it helps to get a good bull ride under your belt and all that, helps you knock the next one down,” he shared.

“To me, it’s just the more bulls that I get to get on, I feel that it’s better for me to get that momentum going and to get my bulls rode. That’s the name of the game. And it all starts with one.”

Two truths in one statement, as the down under cowboy instantly converted some of Saturday’s energy into his power source on Sunday.

Well, maybe not instantly, as the 24-year-old had to first accept a re-ride after a less than ideal out in Round 2. But justifying the second truth, he doesn’t mind getting on a couple of extra bulls.

When the bovine athletes are this talented, any opportunity to show off your skills is a welcomed venture.

Returning to the chutes for a second time on Sunday, he stared down his opponent Whiplash as he readied for the out.

He was warmed up and ready to go. And it showed.

Matching his bull’s every move, he turned in an 88-point score en route to producing the highest re-ride score of the weekend.

“It felt awesome, really. I’m thankful to do my job and for another good bull ride,” he shared.

“I was thankful to get a second chance there and it turned out good.”

Unfortunately for Fielder, his pair of scores (90, 88) would’ve combined for the event’s highest score. But with the first coming during the unique bonus round, the Australian was forced to settle with a third-place tie, alongside Dalton Kasel.

Which is a good sign for any bull rider who wants to keep their name in the world championship race (finishing alongside Kasel, that is).

Having spent some time with fellow countryman Callum Miller over the past month or so, he credited picking up a few pointers from the veteran in helping him crank things up lately.

“It’s been fun. We understand each other great. Things have worked out pretty well and he’s great to work out with,” Fielder added.

“I really didn’t know him that well. It’s funny how many people you don’t really know and then you can end up being good friends. There are a lot of good people around here.”

All things considered; he’s been one of the more consistent riders on tour. With at least one qualified ride in nine of the 14 contests in which he’s participated in, the international talent is proving that the slow and steady approach is more than an acceptable runway in positioning oneself for a run.

With his early-season win in Manchester, New Hampshire, officially securing his spot within the 2024 World Finals: Unleash The Beast (as each rider who wins an event in 2024 has their name automatically etched into the roster), health is the most important element for the young talent who looks to continue his career-best season.

Ranked No. 10 at the weekend’s end, the podium finish represents his fifth Top 10 effort on the season as he looks to stay streaking heading into the season’s endgame.
