NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. – In front of an electric Friday night crowd in the Palmetto State, Marco Eguchi (Poa, Brazil) rode supreme, winning Round 1 of the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour’s CURT PBR in North Charleston, South Carolina.
Eguchi was one of 17 riders to convert during Round 1, as PBR’s top competitors covered 45.94% of their animal athlete opponents.
For Eguchi, he went head-to-head with F-Bomb (Dustin Denning Bucking Bulls/Burnt Chimney Bucking Bulls) in Round 1. Nodding with confidence, Eguchi burst from the chute, making the 8 with ease for an unrivaled 88 points.
In addition to surging to the event lead, Eguchi also garnered 28 Velocity Global points.
The veteran will look to remain atop the leaderboard in Round 2 when he takes on Beau Bear (Twisted Horns Cattle Co./Bear).
Grayson Cole (New Ringgold, Pennsylvania), who rides for the Florida Freedom in the separate PBR Teams league, was second, netting 18 Velocity Global points.
Cole rode to the silver finish in the opening round compliments of an 87-point effort atop Flashbang (GN Livestock & Bucking Bulls/Lucas Manning Bucking Bulls).
Cut The Deck (Barrett/Barnes PRCA Rodeo) awaits Cole in Round 2.
Dustin Herman (Dudley Shoals, North Carolina), Jake Morinec (Mokena, Illinois) and Paulo Ferreira Lima (Bezerros, Brazil) tied for third, each earning 16 Velocity Global points for their matching 85.5-point rides.
Herman conquered Hells Bells (Blue Ridge Bucking Bulls/Triple T), Morinec made the whistle atop Crossover (Shuler Bucking Bulls), and Lima topped Riser (Topline Steel Buildings/Barrett).
In Round 2, each rider in the trio will look to improve to a perfect 2-for-2 when Herman climbs aboard Dang, Dang (Burkham Contracting Inc.), Morinec takes on Perch Trap (TC Bucking Bulls), and Lima goes to work against Yellowstone (5S Ranch).
Action for CURT PBR North Charleston will conclude with Round 2 and the championship round on Saturday, Feb. 3. Action gets underway at 7 p.m. EST.
