WORCESTER, Ma. – When the dust settled in Worcester, Massachusetts, Joao Paulo Fernandes (Hidrolina, Brazil) rode a cut above the rest, going 1-for-3 to win the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour event inside DCU Center.
Fernandes was electric in Round 1, delivering the high-marked ride of the event when he dominated Matthew (C-B Bucking Bulls) for (C-B Bucking Bulls) for 85 points.
While he was bested by Black Sox (Painted Pony Championship Rodeo) in 3.17 seconds in Round 2, and Shark Bait (Mike Miller Bucking Bulls) in 3.57 seconds in the final round, his opening 8-second effort proved enough to clinch the event win at PBR Worcester.
Courtesy of the event win, Fernandes left Massachusetts having earned 108 points in the race for the 2024 PBR Velocity Tour Championship.
Grayson Cole (New Ringgold, Pennsylvania), who rides for the Florida Freedom in the separate PBR Teams league, was second.
The charismatic Pennsylvanian’s 84.5-point ride aboard Air Shift (Mike Miller Bucking Bulls) in Round 1 earned him 68 Velocity Global points.
Marcelo Procopio Pereira (Rinopolis, Brazil) parlayed his Round 2-best, 83-point ride on Inaffit (Dave Martin/Mike Miller Bucking Bulls) into a third-place finish. The bronze showing earned him 64 Velocity Global points.
Riding Shazam (Dave Martin/Mike Miller Bucking Bulls) for 82 points in Round 2, Ueberson Duarte (Itambacuri, Brazil) was fourth, collecting 39 Velocity Global points.
Rounding out the Top 5 in fifth was Eder Barbosa (Goiabeira, Brazil). Barbosa topped Flash Back (Lucky E Rodeo) for 81.5 points in Round 2 to earn 34 Velocity Global points.
The PBR Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour next travels to Bridgeport, Connecticut on March 1-2, and Knoxville, Tennessee, on March 2.
Action for PBR Bridgeport at Total Mortgage Arena gets underway at 8:00 p.m. EST on Friday, March 1 and at 7:00 p.m. EST on Saturday, March 2. PBR Knoxville will take over Thompson-Boling Arena on Saturday, March 2 at 7:00 p.m. EST.
