PUEBLO, Colo. – There’s a few ways one can analyze Cody Jesus and his two PBR Camping World Team Series seasons with the Texas Rattlers.
Helping his team capture the 2023 tour-best honors en route to raising the largest gold buckle in the world inside T-Mobile Arena, it wasn’t so long ago that Jesus was selected in the first round of the PBR Teams draft.
Turning in a 5-for-10 (50%) record in year two while battling another set of injuries, he’s now 17-for-39 (43.6%) all-time in the electric 5-on-5 tour. Which on riding percentage alone would rank him as one of the tour’s Top 10 most efficient riders, albeit with less than 40 outs to his name.
Taking a closer look at his five conversions, though, four of the five were scored 88 points or more (including 88, 88.75, 89.5 and 88.75-point scores), with an 86.25-point dance aboard Spooky representing the outlier.
Simply put, when he’s healthy, he rides. And when he rides, it’s for quality scores!

Just 1-for-3 during this season’s postseason gauntlet in Las Vegas, Nevada, Jesus came to life during his team’s Championship Game appearance battling against the No. 1 Austin Gamblers. Eventually besting Tijuana Two-Step to grant his squad an early boost, he turned in a healthy 88.75-point score while officially contributing to his team’s championship run.
Since raising the trophy and sharing another summer training alongside veteran Joao Ricardo Vieira, Jesus has returned to Unleash The Beast with some fire.
Competing in the individual series means he won’t share points, prizes and beyond with any of his Rattlers teammates. He will, however, continue to share time and celebrations with the gentlemen.
“I still get to see all of my teammates and stuff like that, so I get to hang out with them and hang out with some of the guys who were on some of the other teams, too,” Jesus shared.
“I just like being in a locker room full of bull riders. Hanging out and having fun with all of them.”
Now 6-for-7 (85.7%) throughout two premier series appearances, the Window Rock, Arizona, cowboy is currently ranked No. 2 in the world after producing a fifth-place finish one month ago at his home state event in Tucson, Arizona, parlayed by a runner-up result this past weekend in Johnstown, Pennsylvania.

Competing in more than 60 premier series events since 2019, Jesus has yet to secure a win on Unleash The Beast. He’s found success at a 15/15 Bucking Battle in February 2019, finished second overall at the 2022 World Finals: Unleash The Beast and has now turned in three second-place finishes at individual UTB events themselves, but has yet to exit with an event title.
After starting his weekend in Johnstown with a perfect 3-for-3 start, he nearly willed himself to achieve that feat. But after the judges declared his original short round opponent, Roc Wit It, was disqualified after an unideal setup in the chutes, he was forced to abandon the bull he selected in the draft and go head-to-head with Red Scorpion.
Eventually called for a slap just 2.25 seconds into his final out of the night, he added another second-place finish to his resume, yet remains a likely candidate to achieve his ultimate goal this season if he keeps riding the way he has been.
With Unleash The Beast set to invade Manchester, New Hampshire, this weekend for the fourth event of the 2024 season, we’re taking a quick look back at some of the numerical takeaways from PBR St. Louis in this week’s By the Numbers!
Back-2-Back: It’s been one hell of a rookie season so far for No. 1 Cassio Dias. Just one week after capturing his career-first event title in St. Louis, courtesy of a flashy 3-for-3 performance, the talented 22-year-old doubled down this past weekend in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, with an event-best 3-for-4 showcase en route to picking up his second win in any many events. Now a tour-best 9-for-10 (90%) on the season, Dias suffered his first buckoff of the 2024 slate in Round 2, dispatched to the dirt in a quick 4.07 seconds, courtesy of a date with Train Station. Thankfully the Brazilian rider posted a thrilling 89.25-point conversion aboard The Judge on Friday night to get things started on the right foot. Refocused as ever, he returned to the arena on Championship Sunday with all of the tools he needed. Going the distance atop Strong Arm in Round 3, his place in the short go was secured. Eventually selecting a showdown against Cy Young in the Championship Round, his choice quickly paid dividends.
91.75: As the final three outs of the evening dawned, it was Dias who was up first of the final three, with Cody Jesus and Austin Richardson bringing 3-for-3 records into the final round, albeit scored a bit higher. Instantly applying pressure to the event’s former leaders en route to storming to the top of the leaderboard himself, the talented 22-year-old reminded fans why he’s the hottest on tour right now. Posting a tour-best, 91.75-point score, Dias celebrated with the crowd, ferociously waving having known his 8-second attempt was going to put him in position for at the very least, another top 3 finish. Joining Dias in the 90-plus club throughout four rounds of epic bull riding, Eduardo Aparecido posted a rank 90.5-point score dancing with Punchy Pete in the opening round. That score nearly earned the veteran the Round 1 win, if not for Jesus recording his season-high 90.75-point effort atop Watch Out, which at the time tied Jose Vitor Leme (High Wire) for the best score of the year (and now ranks tied for the second-best score in 2024).
No 6 in the World: One of two riders (alongside Jesus) to produce flawless 3-for-3 records throughout the first three rounds, Richardson first teamed up with Casper to get a solid start via his 88.25-point ride. Dancing with Matthew for an 88-point score in Round 2, he kept the momentum flowing as he took home his first round win of the 2024 season. Extending his ride streak to three on the weekend, it was an 86.75-point qualified ride atop Bad Hart which earned him a trip to his first short round on the year. Seeing Cassio Dias post his third conversion of the night just minutes before it was his turn, he wasn’t able to make it four-straight, as his attempt aboard Ivy League came to a quick conclusion in just 1.12 seconds. Earning 101.5 UTB points for his third-place finish, the Dallas, Texas, native is now ranked No. 6 overall, while the podium result represents his best premier series finish since winning the PBR Wrangler Invitational, presented by Cooper Tires, which took place in April, 2022.
Round 3 Winner: If the first two rounds of competition belonged to Jesus and Richardson, then Championship Sunday can be chalked up to the elite efforts Koltin Hevalow showcased. After starting the season with an 0-for-5 buckoff streak, the 20-year-old turned things around in Johnstown. Technically the closest rider to a perfect 4-for-4 on the weekend (dispatched in a heartbreaking 7.68 seconds during his Round 1 attempt), he recorded his first ride of 2024 on Saturday night. Tasked by dealing with Sandman, the Kansas City Outlaws’ rider got on the board with an 85.5-point score. Keeping things spicy when Championship Sunday rolled around, he went on to best Tijuana Two-Step for a Round 3-winning 88-point score. Making it three in a row to close out the third event of the season, his journey atop Whiskey Trip was logged a rank 89 points to earn the youngster 86.5 UTB points and a fourth-place finish.
Still No. 1: Speaking of consecutive honors, it was world No. 1 Man Hater who continued to showcase his dominance while racking up a second-straight YETI Bull of the Event title in Johnstown. Just one week after posting the highest bull score of the event in St. Louis, a rank 46.5-point effort from ditching Dalton Kasel in in 2.08 seconds, he returned to action on Championship Sunday with another stellar outing. Tasked with a head-to-head showdown against Eli Vastbinder, who was looking for his third ride of the weekend after welcoming his third child into the world earlier that work, he ensured the veteran hit the dirt prior to the requisite 8, eventually sending him flying in 4.99 seconds of work. Receiving a 45.75-point bull score, he was a full point ahead of Cy Young and Exodus, who turned in 44.75-point efforts as the next best performers.
With the premier series set to buck into Manchester this weekend for three rounds of rank bull riding action, fans can tune into Ride Pass on Pluto TV on Friday, Dec. 15 (7:45 p.m. EST) for all of the opening round showdowns. Round 2, followed by the championship go, is slated to begin at 6:45 p.m. EST and is set to air via CBS Sports Network on Sunday, Dec. 17.
