FORT WORTH, Texas – At the thirty-fourth iteration of the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Stockyards Showcase inside the iconic Cowtown Coliseum in Fort Worth, Texas, John Crimber (Decatur, Texas) went a perfect 2-for-2 to win his ninth challenger event this season.
The burgeoning superstar began his perfect evening by covering Going Topless (Cooper/Scruggs Bucking Bulls) for 86 points in Round 1, putting him in third entering the final round.
After steadying himself in the chutes, Crimber rocketed out of the gate aboard Elkins 041 (Philip Elkins). The young gun matched the powerful animal athlete step-for-step for a monstrous 90 points, tying his career high and catapulting him to the top of the leaderboard.
Courtesy of a double entry, his fourth victory at the weekly Stockyards Showcase netted Crimber a critical 58.5 Challenger Series points and pushed him to just 76.33 points behind No. 1 Alan de Souza (Taubate, Brazil) in the Challenger Global standings.
The Arizona Ridge Riders’ Guilherme Valleiras (Pirassununga, Brazil) also posted a perfect performance and finished second.
In Round 1, the Brazilian topped 010H (D&H Cattle Company) for 83.5 points.
Knowing he needed to make the 8 to move into the Top 5, the young cowboy locked in and shot out of the chutes on Elkins 9JB (Philip Elkins) for 87 points in front of the roaring Cowtown crowd.
Valleiras’ seventh Top-5 finish on the Challenger Series earned him a crucial 42 Challenger Series points.
Making his PBR debut, Beau Gardner (Arrowwood, Canada) went 1-for-2 and finished third.
The young Albertan’s PBR career got off to an auspicious start, as he won Round 1 by topping Margi Boy (Dakota Rodeo/Troy Bradshaw) for 87 points.
Looking to secure a win in his debut, the 18-year-old was tasked with taking on Elkins 876 (Philip Elkins) in Round 2. The Canadian cowboy burst out of the gate and initially looked steady before his animal athlete counterpart seized the upper hand and unseated him after a heart-stopping 2.41 seconds.
The bronze finish earned the rookie his first 26 Challenger Series points.
In fourth place was the Kansas City Outlaws’ Sandro Batista (Pedra Preta, Brazil).
In search of his second Challenger Series victory this year, Batista rode Midnight Special (Dakota Rodeo/Troy Bradshaw) for 86.5 points in the opening round.
Sitting in second entering Round 2, the Brazilian shot out of the gate on Elkins 973 (Philip Elkins) but was dismounted after 3.5 seconds.
Batista left Cowtown Coliseum with 20 Challenger Series points, moving him to No. 3 in the Challenger Global standings.
Rounding out the Top 5 was the Missouri Thunder’s Manoelito de Souza Junior (Itamira, Brazil).
The Brazilian cowboy got off to a strong start, covering Blood Money (Cooper/Scruggs Bucking Bulls) for 86 points in Round 1.
The veteran thundered out of the gate on Elkins 737 (Philip Elkins) in Round 2 in front of a boisterous Cowtown Coliseum but was dislodged after 1.18 seconds.
The fifth-place finish garnered Souza 16.5 Challenger Series points.
In the bull pen, MagicBru (D&H Cattle Co./Buck Cattle Co.) proved the rankest of the evening. The powerful bovine competitor bucked off Crimber in 3.77 seconds in Round 1 and was marked 45 points, earning the Bull of the Event title.
