Top ride scores from the 2023 PBR Teams Championship

Re-living the best outs from last weekend’s postseason gauntlet inside T-Mobile Arena!

By James Youness

PUEBLO, Colo. – With the 2023 PBR Camping World Teams Championship officially in the books, it’s safe to say that partners, team executives and fans around the world have bought into the game-changing format.

But seeing the riders themselves give it their all, regularly turning in some of the best performances of the year, means that this thing isn’t just about the bright colors, big paychecks and sharing the glory.

The 5-on-5 tour’s elite riders continued to step up in the direst of circumstances, as last weekend’s best rides came in the biggest moments, with each of the top 6-ranked rides being logged in either the contest’s Last Chance Games or within the Championship Game itself.

With three of the six scores being produced in Saturday’s Last Chance Game between the Missouri Thunder, Kansas City Outlaws and Oklahoma Freedom, we’ve got a feeling that back-and-forth battle could go down in PBR history in its own right.

Home to tons of explosive outs and unexpected upsets, it’s easy to see why the second year of postseason action is being revered as one of PBR’s best events in 30 years of professional competition.

In celebrating the conclusion of this season’s 2023 PBR Camping World Team Series campaign, PBR.com is taking a look back at the rankest ride scores from the 2023 PBR Teams Championship.

Jose Vitor Leme – 89.75 Points (Championship Game) Metting the 8 in the final out of the season is always a nice feature, especially when it’s that close to the coveted 90-point mark, but for two-time World Champion and 2023 PBR Teams MVP Jose Vitor Leme, there isn’t a score in the world he would’ve been happy with, as his No. 1 Austin Gamblers squad came up one ride short (90 points) of this year’s eventual champions, the No. 3 Texas Rattlers. Despite knowing his squad was going home as the contest’s runner-up with nine of 10 rides already in the book, Champ accepted his opportunity, besting Sugar Smack with ease for a quality 89.75 points and putting an exclamation mark on one hell of a season for both the Gamblers and league as a whole.

Kaiden Loud – 89.75 Points (Last Chance Game 1) Listed at just 130 lbs. on PBR.com, youngster Kaiden Loud doesn’t look like the first guy coaches would tap to get the job done in a win-or-go-home contest. But sometimes it’s the smaller riders who earn the best scores. Size aside, Loud’s try was on full display Friday night, as the rookie posted the highest score of the contest after going the distance atop Ivy League. Scored a quality 89.75 points, the second-best mark of his young career, Loud provided some sparks for Justin McBride and company, but the defending champion Nashville Stampede found themselves with the short stick in year two.

Kade Madsen – 90 Points (Last Chance Game 2) Budding superstar Kade Madsen recorded plenty of clutch rides for his No. 8-ranked Thunder squad throughout the weekend, which managed to secure a spot in the Championship Sunday action, courtesy of heroics from Madsen and teammate Felipe Furlan. Participating in six different games throughout the three-day gauntlet, Madsen regularly punched the clock for his team, but no ride stood out more than his 90-point conversion dancing with No Cigar Friday night. Teaming up with Furlan to earn Missouri its spot on day three, Madsen went 4-for-6 overall in Las Vegas.

Felipe Furlan – 90 Points (Last Chance Game 2) Finishing just a few points behind 2023 PBR Teams Championship MVP Joao Ricardo Vieira, the weekend’s eventual runner-up (with the second-highest individual aggregate score) in Felipe Furlan may represent one of the biggest surprises of the season. Managing just a 4-for-21 record during the 10-event regular season, the 22-year-old shifted gears in the postseason, ripping off a stellar 4-for-6 inside T-Mobile Arena last weekend. Logging a pair of 84.5-point trips, alongside a nice 89-point conversion, it was an eventful weekend for the Brazilian. But seeing his peers record some electric outs during the final Last Chace Game of the season, Furlan provided some sparks of his own. Besting Flapjack for a career-best 90 points, he teamed up with Madsen to get the job done.

Daniel Keeping – 90.5 Points (Championship Game) Sunday afternoon’s Championship Game may have featured a combined seven qualified rides, but none of them were as rank, or clutch, as Daniel Keeping’s Championship-securing out for the Rattlers.

Having a knack for rank rides in huge situations, it wasn’t so long ago that Keeping pronounced himself as one of the league’s top riders, whipping up a career-best 93.5-point effort during last season’s postseason. Continuing to provide for Texas in year two, Keeping lasted the requisite 8 seconds atop Red River (90.5 points) Sunday afternoon to log the fourth-best mark of his career. And secure the Rattlers a world championship in the process.

Wingson Henrique da Silva – 92.5 Points (Last Chance Game 2) The Kansas City Outlaws weren’t afraid of much this season, specifically unafraid of mixing up its carousel of personnel in attempting to find its group of dedicated individuals. Well, since acquiring Wingson Henrique da Silva from the Carolina Cowboys prior to the 2023 PBR Teams Draft in Fort Worth, Texas, it’s fair to say they feel pretty good about the swap. Especially after seeing Silva produce a welcomed 12-for-21 slate. Not only representing the highest score of the rider’s career, but also the best mark of the entire 2023 Championship, the talented Brazilian showed off just how capable he is of competing with the best, logging a 92.5-point strike aboard Flyin Wired.
