Hometown Ridge Riders dominate Thunder on night two inside Desert Diamond Arena

Outlaws knock off Gamblers in battle between league’s best teams.

By Andrew Hatfield

GLENDALE, Ariz. – On the second night of the second annual PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Team Series event at Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, Arizona, the hometown Arizona Ridge Riders shut out the Missouri Thunder, 260.75-0.

Nick Tetz brought the crowd to its feet by giving Arizona an early lead and the team never looked back. Vitor Losnake, with the game already in hand, converted in the second to last out to bring an elated Desert Diamond Arena to a fever-pitch as they roared in support of their Ridge Riders.

In a battle of the league’s top two teams, Kansas City’s Sandro Batista remained perfect with his new team as the Outlaws kept their hopes of securing the No. 1 seed heading into the 2023 PBR Team Series Championship alive by defeating the Austin Gamblers in a shootout, 257.75-177.25. MVP frontrunners in Austin’s Jose Vitor Leme and the Outlaws’ Cassio Dias also converted, keeping Leme just 170.25 points ahead of the rookie Dias. Saturday’s conversion marks Leme’s league-leading 18th ride of the season, while Dias is now an incredible 16-for-21 (76.12%) for the Outlaws.

In the most lopsided contest of the night, the Oklahoma Freedom blanked the Nashville Stampede 267.50-0 behind Alex Cerqueira’s monstrous 91.75-point ride, the highest-marked ride of the evening and tying Arizona’s Chase Dougherty for the highest ride of the 2023 PBR Teams’ season.

Less than five hours from his hometown of Window Rock, Arizona, Cody Jesus and the Rattlers mounted a comeback victory over Cooper Davis and the Carolina Cowboys, 88.75-88, on Texas’ second-to-last out of the contest.

Ridge Rider Days continues on Sunday, October 1 at 1:45 MST. Tickets are still available and can be purchased online at Ticketmaster.com and PBR.com, at the Desert Diamond Arena box office, or by calling PBR customer service at 1-800-732-1727.

SCORE BULLETINS

Outlaws’ Batista, Dias Remain Perfect in Glendale, Knock Off No. 1 Gamblers

Austin Gamblers: 177.25 Kansas City Outlaws: 257.75

The Kansas City Outlaws (14-10) defeated the Austin Gamblers (17-7) during Day 2’s opening matchup of the PBR’s (Professional Bull Riders) Ridge Rider Days in Glendale, Arizona.

After the Gamblers’ Ezekiel Mitchell (Rockdale, Texas) was bucked off in the first out, Kansas City’s Leonardo Castro Ferreira (Cassilandia, Brazil) kicked off Day 2’s scoring with an 86.25-point ride on Double R Hat House Pepper Shaker (Cooper/Scruggs Bucking Bulls).

Now in a groove, the Outlaws’ Sandro Batista (Pedra Preta, Brazil) kept the good times rolling, topping Show Me (Cooper/Scruggs Bucking Bulls) for 87.25 points to extend Kansas City’s lead, making him a perfect 2-for-2 since being traded to the Outlaws.

Austin’s Lucas Divino (Nova Crixas, Brazil) attempted to close the gap atop Black Gold (Cooper/Scruggs Bucking Bulls) but was dispatched by the powerful animal athlete.

Kansas City’s Bob Mitchell (Steelville, Missouri) had an early opportunity to seal a victory for the Outlaws with five outs remaining but was barely bucked off before the whistle by JAG Metals Grand Theft (D&H Cattle Co/Philip Elkins) in 7.47 seconds.

The Gamblers were awarded a re-ride in the next out, keeping their hopes alive for a miraculous comeback after Kansas City’s Julio Cesar Marques (Tatui, Brazil) was bucked off Brody’s Outlaw (Mann Creek Buck N’ Bulls) in 1.61 seconds.

Rafael dos Santos (Quitman, Georgia) took advantage of that re-ride opportunity, putting Austin on the board with a game-high 89.25-point ride atop Taylor’s Cowtown Throwdown (Farris Cattle/Big Schott Rodeo/Triple T Livestock).

With just the closers left atop the chutes, Kansas City’s Cassio Dias (Sao F. de Sales, Brazil) catapulted out of the gate aboard Heater (D&H Cattle Company) and made the horn for 84.25 points, securing the victory for the No. 2 ranked Kansas City Outlaws and keeping the No. 1 spot within reach.

While Austin’s Jose Vitor Leme (Ribas do Rio Pardo, Brazil) converted for 88 points on Chateau Montelena’s Montana Jacket (Vella/Coleman/Ogden/Hart), the game was already decided.

The red-hot Outlaws will try to secure either a spot in Extra Outs or an event win against the Texas Rattlers (11-13) on Sunday, while Austin will attempt to salvage one win in Glendale against the Nashville Stampede (9-15).

Freedom Shut Out Stampede in Decisive Victory

Nashville Stampede: 0 Oklahoma Freedom: 267.50

The Oklahoma Freedom (13-11) remained perfect at PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Ridge Rider days, defeating the Nashville Stampede (9-15) in the second game Saturday night.

Following the pattern set by the opening contest, Nashville’s Chase Outlaw (Hamburg, Arkansas) failed to make the 8 in the opening out against his former team, but the Freedom’s Alex Cerqueira (Iguatemi, Brazil) converted, covering Ricky Vaughn (D&H Cattle Co/Buck Cattle Co) for a monstrous 91.75 points to give Oklahoma a commanding early lead and tying the highest-marked ride of the 2023 PBR Teams’ season.

The team from the Sooner State extended the lead after another Stampede buck off, as Grayson Cole (New Ringgold, Pennsylvania) danced in perfect time with Mikey’s Surprise (Ogden Ranch/Hart Cattle Co.) for an impressive 89.75 points.

After Nashville was unable to get out of the gate, all eyes turned to Bill Henry (Manila, Utah) who had a chance to give Oklahoma an almost insurmountable lead. Leaping out of the gate atop Major Pain (M Rafter E Bucking Bulls), Henry lost the rope in 2.54 seconds.

However, the Stampede’s Bruno Carvalho (Alvares Florence, Brazil) was unable to convert, and the Freedom’s Roscoe Jarboe (New Plymouth, Idaho) put the final nail in the coffin with an 86-point ride on WSM’s Unstoppable (WSM Auctioneers/Clay Struve/Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger).

Oklahoma attempts to win their first event of the season by defeating the hometown Arizona Ridge Riders (11-13) on Sunday, while Nashville tries to bounce back against the league-leading Austin Gamblers (17-7).

Rattlers’ Cody Jesus Leads Texas to Victory Over Carolina in Home State

Texas Rattlers: 88.75 Carolina Cowboys: 88

In the penultimate contest of Day 2 of the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Camping World Team Series’ return to Arizona, the Texas Rattlers (13-11) came back to defeat the Carolina Cowboys (10-14) in dramatic fashion.

For the third-straight game, the opening rider was bucked off while the second rider converted, as Carolina’s Cooper Davis (Jasper, Texas) pushed his team in front early by covering War Daddy (TNT Bucking Bulls/Hart Cattle Co) for 88 points. The Rattlers’ Brady Oleson (Blackfoot, Idaho) tried to even the score but was unseated by Hell Bound (Hawkins Bucking Bulls).

Following four more consecutive buck offs, Texas’ Braidy Randolph (Stephenville, Texas) readied himself in the chutes. He rocketed out of the gate atop Wasted Days (Hart Cattle Co/Hale) and hung on for 78.5 points but instead Head Coach Cody Lambert chose to accept the offered re-ride.

Cody Jesus (Window Rock, Arizona) next leapt out of the chutes for Texas, giving the Rattlers the lead with an 88.75-point ride on I’m Legit Too (Hart Cattle Co/Hale) in front of his home state faithful. For his re-ride, Randolph then burst out of the gate on Hundred Bad Days (TNT Bucking Bulls/Hart Cattle Co) but was unseated after 2.0 seconds, leaving the door open for the Cowboys to walk it off.

In the final out, Carolina’s Sage Steele Kimzey (Strong City, Oklahoma) catapulted out of the chutes aboard Bread Basket (TNT Bucking Bulls/Hart Cattle Co) but lost the rope after 3.94 seconds, leaving the Rattlers victorious by less than a point.

The Rattlers are looking to stay hot against the Kansas City Outlaws (14-10) on Sunday prior to their homestand next weekend, while Carolina tries to rebound versus the Missouri Thunder (7-17).

Arizona Shuts Out Missouri to Grab First Win of Homestand

Missouri Thunder: 0 Arizona Ridge Riders: 260.75

Keeping to the script of the evening, the Missouri captain Andrew Alvidrez (Seminole, Texas) was bucked off in the opening out before Arizona’s Nick Tetz (Calgary, Alberta) came through on Crooked Nose (M Rafter E/High View Cattle) for 89.5 points to give the hometown team the lead.

After another Thunder buck off, the Ridge Riders extended their lead courtesy of Eduardo Aparecido’s (Gouvelandia, Brazil) 84.75-point ride aboard Chucks Delight (Tyler Farris Bucking Bulls).

Missouri’s Manoelito de Souza Junior (Itamira, Brazil) was dispatched by Brusta (Joe & Nina Webb/Julian/D&H Cattle Co) in the following out, giving Arizona’s Jesse Petri (Dublin, Texas) the opportunity for a clean sweep to secure an early victory.

Shaking off the rust after returning from injured reserve, Petri rocketed out of the chutes on Back Jack (Clay Struve/Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger) but failed to convert, keeping the Thunder’s hopes alive.

Now in a must-ride situation, Missouri rookie Joao Lucas Campos (Porto Feliz, Brazil) shot out of the gate on Preston’s Pistol (4B Bucking Bulls) but lost the rope after 2.67 seconds, giving the hometown Ridge Riders the victory in front of a roaring Desert Diamond Arena.

Arizona looks for their second win of the homestand against the Oklahoma Freedom (13-11) Sunday, while Missouri tries to seize a win against the Carolina Cowboys (10-14).
