Q. What is the PBR Camping World Team Series?
The PBR Camping World Team Series is an elite new league featuring the world’s top bull riders competing on teams in 5-on-5 bull riding games during an 11-event season culminating in a team championship at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Oct. 20-22.
Q. How many teams are in the PBR Camping World Team Series?
The PBR Camping World Team Series has eight founding teams: Arizona Ridge Riders, Austin Gamblers, Carolina Cowboys, Kansas City Outlaws, Missouri Thunder, Nashville Stampede, Oklahoma Freedom, and Texas Rattlers.
Q. Are the rules the same?
Teams features the same basic rules for judging and scoring qualified 8-second bull rides.
Q. How does a team win a game?
All eight teams compete in head-to-head, 5-on-5 games against a different opponent. The team with the highest aggregate score from the respective matchup will win that game.
Q. How will riders be matched against bulls in the games?
Bulls will be randomly drawn to teams. Coaches will work with their riders to determine bull assignments, which may change from game to game within an event.
Q. How does the PBR Camping World Teams Championship work?
The 2023 season culminates with the PBR Camping World Team Series Championship in Las Vegas at T-Mobile Arena on Oct. 20-22. The event will consist of an elimination tournament format with all teams participating. The top two teams in the regular season (Austin & Kansas City) received first-round byes.
The playoffs are the same 5-on-5, head-to-head format fans saw during the regular season. Two teams will be eliminated from the PBR Camping World Team Series Championship each day. The first two rounds of competition will feature a “Last Chance” playoff game for teams who lost their first game earlier in the night.
Q. What is a Last Chance Game?
The first two rounds of competition of the PBR Team Series Championship will feature a three-way “Last Chance” playoff game for the three teams who lost their first game earlier in the night. The Last Chance Game is the only time in PBR Teams competition that one single game features three teams squaring off head-to-head-to-head. The team with the highest aggregate score on five outs will be the winner of the game and advance to the next round of competition, while the other two teams will be eliminated from the PBR Camping World Team Series Championship.
Q. How are ties broken at the PBR Camping World Team Series Championship?
In the first and second rounds of the PBR Camping World Team Series Championship, there will be one round of extra outs if both teams are tied at the end of regulation. An overtime round consists of each team attempting to ride one bull. The team with the highest score or buckoff time will be declared the winner. If teams are still tied, the second tiebreaker is the highest seed based on regular-season standings. However, this does not apply to the Last Chance Games. Ties in the Last Chance Games will be broken via highest seed based on regular-season standings.
In the semifinal games, ties will be broken with up to three extra outs in which each team will attempt one bull per round. If no team posts a higher ride score after up to three extra outs rounds, the tie will be broken based on aggregate buckoff time across the three rounds. The Championship and third-place game will feature up to five rounds of extra outs with the same rules as above.
Q. How many games were on the PBR Team Series regular-season schedule?
There was a total of 10 regular-season events. Each of the eight teams hosted a three-day regular-season event in their home city, plus participated in two regular-season neutral site events in Cheyenne, Wyoming, and Anaheim, California. Each team played a total of 28 games during the regular season.
Q. What does a team’s roster consist of?
Teams have seven “protected roster” riders and up to five “reserve roster” riders via drafts and free agency.
During competition, teams have five starters and up to seven riders on their benches. These riders can be subbed in/out of games throughout a weekend, giving teams flexibility for optimal performance.
Q. Is there any individual championship within the team format?
Jose Vitor Leme of the Austin Gamblers won the $100,000 League MVP award based on having the highest individual aggregate score total across all outs in the regular season (20-for-29).
Q. Suppose a rider gets hurt in Round 1 of an event: does the team call up another rider?
All teams will bring at least seven riders to the PBR Team Series Championship. Each game features five riders designated by the coach. Throughout an event, coaches may rotate their starting lineup as they see fit. There are also up to five riders on the reserve roster who may be called up to compete.
Q. Can riders ride more than once in a game?
No, riders cannot ride twice in a given game or round. If a team doesn’t have five available riders for a game, they forfeit the ride(s). The only exception is in extra outs. If a game is tied after five outs, then a team can use any of its riders one more time in extra outs.
Q. Who won the 2022 PBR Teams Championship?
The Nashville Stampede swept through the competition at the 2022 PBR Teams Championship, going undefeated to take the inaugural title.
