FORT WORTH, Texas – Thursday night inside the iconic Cowtown Coliseum, rookie sensation John Crimber (Decatur, Texas) rode lights out, sweeping both rounds of competition at the weekly PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Stockyards Showcase to win his fifth event with the organization in his young career.
Crimber has been dominant since making his PBR debut in mid-August. He has now won five PBR Challenger Series events, including two of the past three iterations of the Stockyards Showcase. The success has led him to catapult to No. 3 in the race for the 2023 PBR Challenger Series Championship, within 441.5 points of No. 1 Alan de Souza (Taubate, Brazil).
As competition got underway in Fort Worth, Crimber first went head-to-head with GT – 54H (GT Bucking Bulls). In what proved to be a perfect pairing, Crimber matched the powerful animal athlete jump-for-jump en route to the whistle, awarded a mammoth 90 points. The score was not only the first 90-point ride of Crimber’s career, but also marked the top score of the event.
Crimber continued to ride supreme in Round 2, teaming up with Lansky (Grin/Jacobson/McCoy Rodeo) for 89 points to win the round and clinch the event victory.
The latest golden finish garnered Crimber 63 Challenger Global points.
As the only other rider to go a perfect 2-for-2, Adriano Salgado (Batatais, Brazil) was second, collecting 46 Challenger Global points.
The Austin Gamblers rider in the separate PBR Teams League, rode Sonny’s Bruiser (Harrison/Spencer/Sharman Cattle Company LLC) for 87 points in Round 1, before going the distance atop Armageddon (Stockyards Pro Rodeo/Winston/Melton Bull Co.).
The Arizona Ridge Riders’ Davi Henrique da Lima (Candido Mota, Brazil) and Austin Gamblers’ Jean Fernandes Pereira (Crixas, Brazil) tied for third, each earning 20.5 Challenger Global points.
Lima found success in the opening round, covering Smoke Show (Flip’Em/Rowdy Morgan) for 83.5 points. He fell short of a flawless outing in Round 2 when he was upended by Big R (Stockyards Pro Rodeo) in 2.8 seconds.
For Pereira, following a 3.82-second buckoff dealt to him by LA Legs (Austin Rodeo Ranch) in Round 1, he topped Here To Party (Stockyards/Pritchett Ranch/Melton Bull Co.) for 83.5 points in the final round.
Rounding out the Top 5 in fifth was Boogie Marquez (Monahan, Texas).
Marquez’ 82.5-point ride on CMSR 967 (Stockyards Pro Rodeo) earned him 16 Challenger Global points.
In the bull pen, It’s Cherry (Halpain Bucking Bulls) was crowned the Bull of the Event! He posted an event-best 44.5-point score in Round 2 for his 2.9-second buckoff of Guilherme Valleiras (Pirassununga, Brazil).
The PBR Stockyards Showcase continues Thursday, September 21. Action inside Cowtown Coliseum will get underway at 7:30 p.m. CDT.
