FORT WORTH, Texas – At the thirty-second iteration of the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Stockyards Showcase inside the iconic Cowtown Coliseum in Fort Worth, Texas, Lorenzo Lopez went a perfect 2-for-2 to win his first PBR Challenger Series event.
The young cowboy rocketed out of the chutes on CMSR 938 (Stockyards Pro Rodeo) for 80 points in Round 1, putting him in fourth heading into the final round.
Looking to jump up the leaderboard, Lopez locked in, topping Doc Holiday (JD Nix Rodeo Co.) for 83 points to catapult to the top of the leaderboard.
The only rider to go a perfect 2-for-2, Lopez earned a critical 54 Challenger Series points.
Brandon Chambers (Newport, North Carolina) covered Flinn 002 (Eli Flinn) for an event-high 87 points in Round 1 but was bucked off by Flinn 30H (Eli Flinn) in a thrilling 4.45 seconds in Round 2.
The North Carolinian returned home with 36 Challenger Series points, pushing him inside the Top 20 in the Challenger Global standings.
Young gun John Crimber (Decatur, Texas) rounded out the podium.
The Texan shot into second place after riding Elkins 041 (Philip Elkins) for 85.5 points in Round 1 with his eyes set on his seventh Challenger Series victory.
In Round 2, Crimber steadied himself in the chutes on Nix 125H (JD Nix Rodeo Co.) before the pair burst out of the gate. After a hard-fought 4.42 seconds, the powerful animal athlete gained the upper hand, unseating the young cowboy.
The performance garnered the burgeoning superstar 23 Challenger Series points. He currently sits No. 2 in the Challenger Global standings, 319.33 points behind Alan de Souza (Taubate, Brazil).
The Missouri Thunder’s Marcelo Procopio Pereira (Rinopolis, Brazil) finished fourth Thursday evening.
After being bucked off by Elkins 975 (Philip Elkins) in Round 1, Pereira rebounded, covering Flinn 16H (Eli Flinn) for 84 points in the final round to shoot up the leaderboard.
His 1-for-2 performance netted a crucial 23 Challenger Series points.
Trace Brown (Stephenville, Texas) closed out the Top 5, securing 17 Challenger Series points.
After failing to make the 8 in the opening round, the Texan found his groove atop Sand Man (JD Nix Rodeo Co) for 82.5 points in the final round.
Rounding out the eight qualified rides at Cowtown was the Texas Rattlers’ Alvaro Ariel (Itumirim, Brazil) and Elijah Mora (Wiggins, Colorado), who both finished 1-for-2.
In the bull pen, Flinn 30H, Nix 125H and Flinn 41H (Eli Flinn) were all marked 43 points besting their cowboy counterparts to tie for the Bull of the Event title.
The PBR Stockyards Showcase returns on Thursday, October 5. Action inside Cowtown Coliseum will get underway at 7:30 p.m. CT.
