CEDAR PARK, Texas – For the fourth straight year, PBR’s (Professional Bull Riders) Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour will buck into Cedar Park, Texas, returning to H-E-B Center on February 9-10, 2024, with PBR Cedar Park.
For two nights only, some of the best bull riders in the world will battle the sport’s rankest bovine athletes in the ultimate showdown of man vs. beast in one of the most exciting live sporting events to witness.
PBR’s return to Cedar Park comes on the spurs of one of the organization’s most dynamic individual seasons in 2023, as the Velocity Tour broke and reset numerous attendance and competition records en-route to its most successful season to date.
The upcoming PBR Cedar Park will mark the thirteenth event of the new individual season for the PBR’s expansion series. Eventgoers will watch on as riders vie for crucial points in the race to be crowned the 2024 PBR Velocity Tour Champion.
When PBR’s Velocity Tour was last in Cedar Park in February 2023, Griffin Smeltzer (Claresholm, Alberta) rode supreme, going a combined 2-for-3 to win PBR Cedar Park. The win was Smeltzer’s first of the season and second of his career on the Velocity Tour.
When the event inside the H-E-B Center got underway, Smeltzer was uncharacteristically bucked off by LNE 849 (Lee Bucking Stock) in a quick 2.35 seconds. The surging Canadian, however, returned determined on Championship Saturday. Smeltzer first put points on the board in Round 2 when he covered Bad Deal (Platinum Bull Company) for a crucial 86.5 points.
Orca (Mason Bucking Bulls) then awaited Smeltzer as his final animal athlete opponent. Remaining in perfect time with the powerful bull, Smeltzer reached the requisite 8 as the crowd went wild. Awarded 87 points, the top score of the round, the score proved enough to earn the Canuck the victory.
Other past Velocity Tour PBR Cedar Park event winners include: Cladson Rodolfo (2022) and J.T. Moore (2021).
Prior to the PBR Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour’s debut in Cedar Park in 2021, the city welcomed the Touring Pro Division annually from 2011-2015. Other past winners include the likes of three-time PBR World Finals event winner Robson Palermo (2015), Kasey Hayes (2014), Markus Mariluch (2013), Reese Cates (2012) and Douglas Duncan (2011).
The bull riding action for PBR Cedar Park begins with Round 1 at 8:00 p.m. CT on Friday, February 9, followed by Round 2 and the championship round at 7:00 p.m. CT on Saturday, February 10. All 40 competing bull riders will get on one bull each in Round 1. The Top 36 riders from Round 1 will advance to Round 2 Saturday evening. The riders’ individual two-round scores will be totaled with the Top 10 advancing to the championship round for one more out and a chance at the event title.
