PBR Teams’ trade deadline passes, regular season rosters officially locked

Teams set to conclude regular season, enter 2023 PBR Teams Championship with finalized rosters.

By James Youness

GLENDALE, Ariz. – With Sept. 28 marking the PBR Camping World Team Series’ Trade Deadline and corresponding Regular Season Roster Lock date, all eight teams have officially submitted their final roster designations for the stretch run.

With teams able to lock in up to seven riders to their respective Protected Roster and an additional five to their Reserve Roster (plus up to two riders on Injured Reserve), each organization has finalized the 12 to 14 riders it will carry into the final two events of the season and heading into the 2023 PBR Teams Championship in Las Vegas Oct. 20-22.

During the final two regular season events and season-culminating gauntlet inside T-Mobile Center, teams will be allowed to release riders from either their Protected Roster or Reserve Roster but will not be permitted to sign free agents until the conclusion of 2023 competition.

The only instance in which a team can sign a free agent for the remainder of 2023 competition is if they delegate a rider from either the Protected Roster or Reserve Roster to Injured Reserve (assuming they have room to do so, as each team is limited to two Injured Reserve spots).

While the league saw a few trades occur in the weeks leading into this year’s Trade Deadline, the Kansas City Outlaws and Carolina Cowboys were the only teams actively engaged in swaps this week, with the Outlaws acquiring 24-year-old Sandro Batista from the Cowboys in exchange for future considerations.

Other trades that occurred earlier this season include:

The Oklahoma Freedom dealing Eli Vastbinder to the Texas Rattlers in exchange for youngster Dawson Gleaves and a second-round selection in the 2024 PBR Teams Draft

The Arizona Ridge Riders acquiring Colten Fritzlan from the Missouri Thunder in exchange for a first-round selection in the 2023 PBR Teams Draft

The Carolina Cowboys trading Wingson Henrique da Silva to the Kansas City Outlaws in exchange for first-round selections in both the 2023 and 2024 PBR Teams Draft

The Nashville Stampede acquiring Jess Lockwood in exchange for Thiago Salgado and a first-round selection in the 2024 PBR Teams Draft

The Carolina Cowboys dealing Mason Taylor and Ednelio Almeida to the Nashville Stampede in exchange for a first-round selection in the 2023 PBR Teams Draft

As of early Friday afternoon, the final transactions leading up to this year’s Regular Season Roster Lock involved two free agent signings (both of whom are slated to make their debuts Friday night) and a pair of personnel moves as Kansas City welcomed back another rider from IR:

The Carolina Cowboys signed Conner Halverson to the Reserve Roster

The Oklahoma Freedom signed Grayson Cole to the Reserve Roster

The Kansas City Outlaws placed Leonardo Castro Ferreira on the Protected Roster from Injured Reserve and delegated Julio Cesar Marques to the Reserve Roster
