Carlos Gomes Junior rides supreme at PBR Stockyards Showcase

Dominant bull pen allows just four rides.

FORT WORTH, Texas – At the thirty-first iteration of the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Stockyards Showcase inside the iconic Cowtown Coliseum in Fort Worth, Texas, Carlos Gomes Junior (Carmo de Minas, Brazil) went 1-for-2 and was crowned the event champion Thursday evening.

In Round 1, the 31-year-old Brazilian wowed the Cowtown faithful with an impressive 89-point ride on Baptism by Fire (BMC Bucking Bulls/Jenkins Cattle Co.).

After no other rider made the 8 in Round 1, Gomes leapt out of the chutes atop Red Oaks (Hart Cattle Company) in the final round with a chance to put his lead out of reach, but was bucked off in 2.98 seconds.

Gomes returned home with a crucial 46 Challenger Series points.

2002 PBR World Champion Ednei Caminhas (Indaiatuba, Brazil) posted the best score in Round 2 to finish second.

After being bucked off by Ben Bucker (Cooper Scruggs Bucking Bulls) in 5.72 seconds in Round 1, the veteran dialed in, covering Dangerous Medicine (Hart Cattle Company) for 86.5 points to rocket into second place.

The rugged Brazilian left Cowtown Coliseum with 36 Challenger Series points, moving him up to No. 3 in the Challenger Global standings.

Rounding out the podium was Guilherme Valleiras (Pirassununga, Brazil), who earned 23 Challenger Series points for his performance Thursday evening.

Bucked off by CMSR 97H (Stockyards Pro Rodeo) in 2.89 seconds in Round 1, the Brazilian cowboy rallied to top CMSR 005 (Stockyards Pro Rodeo) for 80 points in Round 2.

The final qualified ride of the night belonged to Alex Cardozo (Indaiatuba, Brazil), who finished fourth.

In Round 2, Cardozo shot out of the gate atop CMSR 90 (Stockyards Pro Rodeo) for 77 points to slide into fourth on the leaderboard.

The Brazilian returned home with 11 Challenger Series points courtesy of his 1-for-2 performance.

Leading a dominant bull pen was CMSR 016 (Stockyards Pro Rodeo), who ejected Brayden Ritter (Stephenville, Texas) in just 1.57 seconds and was marked 44 points to win the Bull of the Event title.
