2023 PBR Teams Game Notes: Ridge Rider Days

Everything you need heading into this weekend's PBR Ridge Rider Days!

By Andrew Hatfield

With the electric 5-on-5 PBR Camping World Team Series set to invade Glendale, Arizona, for the second-ever Ridge Rider Days Sept. 29-Oct.1 as Desert Diamond Arena will host the best bull riders in the world and Arizona Ridge Riders look to take advantage of its hometown crowd:

THE MAGIC NUMBER IS 2: The Austin Gamblers (17-5) found their stride once again, going a perfect 3-0 to win their record-setting fourth event of the season. With the victory, the Gamblers Magic Number is 2 – they’re two wins away from securing the No. 1 spot entering Las Vegas during the PBR Camping World Team Series Championship for the second-consecutive season. Jose Vitor Leme surpassed bull riding legend J.B. Mauney with his 76th career premier series ride in dramatic fashion, walking off the Arizona Ridge Riders – Leme’s league-leading sixth walk-off ride this season. The 2022 PBR Teams MVP has topped the MVP race in seven of the eight weeks this season, currently leading Rookie of the Year favorite, Kansas City’s Cassio Dias, by 163 points. Despite Leme’s solid 2-for-3 performance in Greensboro, North Carolina, Dias closed the gap on his fellow Brazilian by winning his second event MVP award by tallying the highest personal aggregate score in the event. The young cowboy went a perfect 3-for-3 and posted two 90-point rides to score 269 points last weekend, the second-most in an event this year trailing only Leme’s legendary 270.25-point performance in Cheyenne, Wyoming, to start the season. Dias now leads all riders with five 90-point rides. Leme and the Gamblers look to secure a first-round bye against the Oklahoma Freedom in Game 2 on Friday, while Dias and the Kansas City Outlaws (12-10) attempt to make up ground against the Carolina Cowboys (10-12) in Game 1

RIDING DOWN HISTORY: Three-time PBR World Champion Silvano Alves currently has 498 career rides, just two rides short of becoming the fourth rider in PBR history to record 500 rides on the premier series or PBR Teams, trailing only Guilherme Marchi (635), J.B. Mauney (538) and Mike Lee (525). Alves went 1-for-2 in Greensboro, North Carolina, last weekend, helping his Stampede defeat the Missouri Thunder with an 88.5-point ride on Thunderstruck. He continues his quest for 500 against the hometown Arizona Ridge Riders in the final game Friday evening.
