Outlaws nearly perfect, Gamblers remain undefeated, Freedom and Rattlers notch wins on night two of Outlaw Days

The Austin Gamblers are the only team left with a flawless record, improving to 4-0 with a win over the Carolina Cowboys.

By Kacie Albert

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Kansas City Outlaws continued to dominate their second annual PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Camping World Team Series homestand Friday evening, delivering a near-perfect game against the Missouri Thunder to not only win the battle for the Show Me State, but also improve to a flawless 2-0 at Outlaw Days inside T-Mobile Center.

The Outlaws set the tone early in the game, converting in each of their outs through the first three frames to pull two bulls ahead of the Thunder entering the fourth. The team’s 174.25-point lead was earned compliments of key scores from Wingson Henrique da Silva, Cassio Dias and Marcus Mast.

While the Thunder’s Andrew Alvidrez kept their hopes of victory alive in the top of the fourth, Leonardo Castro Ferreira clinched the Kansas City win in the bottom of the frame when he covered Yellowknife for a crucial 87.75 points.

With the victory in hand, the Outlaws then had the opportunity to make history in the bottom of the fifth. Should Koltin Hevalow ride Choctaw Bingo, the team would not only record just the third perfect game in league history, but also the first-ever at their own homestand. Despite Hevalow coming up short of the whistle, the Outlaws still improved to a perfect 2-0 at PBR Outlaw Days, registering a 349.5-259.25 victory over the Thunder.

The Kansas City Outlaws will look to remain perfect and win Outlaw Days when the action inside T-Mobile Center concludes on Saturday, Aug. 5, when they play the Oklahoma Freedom. The Missouri Thunder will chase their first victory in their home state when they take on the Arizona Ridge Riders.

Earlier in the evening, the Austin Gamblers and Carolina Cowboys went head-to-head to see which team’s bid for a perfect season would remain intact, as each began the contest with a flawless 3-0 record.

Courtesy of a critical fifth-frame score from 2022 PBR Teams MVP Jose Vitor Leme, the Gamblers emerged supreme, dealing the Cowboys their first loss of the season, 177.25-174.75. Also now 2-0 at Outlaw Days, Austin will look to complete their run of the table when they play the Texas Rattlers on Championship Saturday, while the Cowboys will look to earn a rebound win over the Nashville Stampede.

Friday night’s action also included a 1.25-point victory for the Texas Rattlers, presented by Ariat, over the Arizona Ridge Riders, and a 1.5-point win for the Oklahoma Freedom over the Nashville Stampede, earned compliments of closer Derek Kolbaba’s fifth career walk-off ride.

Kansas City Outlaw Days concludes Saturday, Aug. 5, at 6:45 p.m. CT. Tickets are still available and can be purchased online at AXS.com, PBR.com, kansascityoutlaws.com and t-mobilecenter.com, or by calling PBR customer service at 1-800-732-1727.

Surrounding the competition inside T-Mobile Center, the team will continue to host the Outlaw Days Festival, celebrating the modern cowboy by day, bringing eventgoers an immersive experience filled with bulls, barbeque, and beer, before transitioning into a disco cowboy extravaganza by night.

SCORE BULLETINS

exas Rattlers Edge Arizona Ridge Riders to Improve to 1-1 On Second Day of PBR Camping World Team Series Competition in Kansas City, Missouri

Texas Rattlers: 88.5 Arizona Ridge Riders: 87.25

As the second day of PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Camping World Team Series competition got underway inside T-Mobile Center, the Texas Rattlers edged the Arizona Ridge Riders by a slim 1.25 points to improve to 1-1 in Kansas City, Missouri.

The first frame of the game featured veteran contenders for both squads, as Eduardo Aparecido (Gouvelandia, Brazil) led off for Arizona and Joao Ricardo Vieira (Itatinga, Brazil) was tapped to ride first for Texas. While Aparecido was unable to conquer Wham Bam (Flying S/Pedra Bucking Bulls), tossed in 2.75 seconds, Vieira struck fast for the Rattlers, conquering Tijuana Two-Step (Blake Sharp/Michael Floyd) for a crucial 88.5 points to give his team the early lead.

Arizona, however, was quick to respond. In the top of the second, Vitor Losnake (Bauru, Brazil) teamed with Hundred Bad Days (TNT Bucking Bulls/Hart Cattle Co.) for an 87.25-point trip to inch the Ridge Riders within 1.25 points of the lead. In the bottom of the frame, Texas stumbled as Braidy Randolph (Jonestown, Pennsylvania) bucked off Casper (Crescent City Bucking Bulls/Lari Crane/Gene Owen) in 2.89 seconds, leaving the scoreboard unchanged, with Texas still ahead 88.5-87.25.

The scoreboard remained unchanged throughout the third and fourth, with neither team making the requisite 8, setting up a crucial fifth frame. In a must-ride situation for the second consecutive game in Missouri, the Ridge Riders turned to reigning PBR Canada Champion Nick Tetz (Calgary, Alberta) to keep their hopes of victory alive. Tetz was unable to rise to the occasion, dispatched by Problem Child (K-C Bucking Bulls/TCB Ranch) in 5.43 seconds to cement the victory for Texas.

To conclude the game, Daniel Keeping (Montague, Texas) was awarded a re-ride following his dance with Bootlegger (Flinn Cattle Co.), which Rattlers’ Head Coach Cody Lambert tapped Dawson Gleaves (Amarillo, Texas) to attempt. While Gleaves was laser focused aboard Sugar Smack (Blake Sharp/Chris Utz/Carey Brothers), he could not convert, bucked off in 6.68 seconds.

The Rattlers’ first-frame score sealed the win for the team, triumphing over Arizona 88.5-87.25. Courtesy of the win, the Rattlers improved to 1-1, while the Ridge Riders remain on the hunt for their first win in Kansas City, now 0-2 at PBR Outlaw Days. When the PBR Teams event concludes on Saturday, Aug. 5, the Rattlers will look to continue their momentum when they play the Austin Gamblers, while the Ridge Riders try to reverse their fortunes when they face off against the Missouri Thunder.

Austin Gamblers Improve to a Perfect 4-0 in 2023 PBR Teams Season by Dealing the Carolina Cowboys Their First Loss at Camping World Team Series Event in Kansas City, Missouri

Austin Gamblers: 177.25 Carolina Cowboys: 174.75

The second day of competition for the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Camping World Team Series was headlined by a showdown of titans, as the undefeated Austin Gamblers and Carolina Cowboys went head to head to see whose bid for a perfect season would continue. Courtesy of a crucial fifth-frame score from closer Jose Vitor Leme (Ribas do Rio Pardo, Brazil), the Gamblers beat the Cowboys by 2.5 points to improve to a flawless 4-0 in 2023, while the Cowboys slipped to 3-1.

As the game got underway, the pressure was evident from the first out. After struggling in the chutes with Border Crisis (Hart Cattle Co./Hale), Dalton Kasel (Muleshoe, Texas) was awarded a re-ride for the Gamblers. In the bottom of the frame, two-time PBR World Finals qualifier Josh Frost (Randlett, Utah) struck early for Carolina, giving the Cowboys an 87-point lead when he covered Whiplash (Blake Sharp/Floyd Lowry/CB & Traci Lee).

After a scoreless second, the third not only featured Adriano Salgado (Batatais, Brazil) for the Gamblers and Daylon Swearingen (Piffard, New York) for the Cowboys, but it also showcased Kasel’s re-ride for Austin. While Salgado began the frame with a buckoff, tossed by Top Dollar (Hookin’ W/DeHoff/VanCLeave) in 5.5 seconds, before Swearingen attempted Carolina’s third bull, Kasel burst from the chutes aboard DirtyBru (D&H Cattle Co./Gordon/OK Corralis). In what proved to be a perfect pairing, Kasel remained in perfect time with the powerful animal athlete, reaching the requisite 8 for a monstrous 91 points. The score is now the high-marked ride of the 2023 PBR Teams season and the league’s fifth 90-point ride. The mammoth score pushed Austin 4 points ahead entering the bottom of the third.

While Swearingen was eager to put his team back on top, he failed to convert, bucked off by JAG Metals Grand Theft (D&H Cattle Co./Philip Elkins) in a heartbreaking 7.36 seconds. Despite having momentum on their side, the Austin Gamblers’ Lucas Divino (Nova Crixas, Brazil) was unsuccessful, failing to add to his team’s lead when he was upended by Swipe Right (Blake Sharp) in 3.46 seconds. In the bottom of the fourth, Trey Kimzey (Strong City, Oklahoma) made his PBR Teams debut for the Cowboys. Proving an instant force for his team, Kimzey rode Turn Back Jack (Sho-Me Rodeo) for a crucial 87.75 points to put Carolina back in front by 83.75 points.

As the fifth got underway, the Austin Gamblers’ closer Leme was in a must-ride position as he readied to go head-to-head with Martini Houdini (Flying C/Tom Baker). The 2022 PBR Teams MVP rose to the occasion, teaming with the bovine athlete for 86.25 points to give Austin a 2.5-point lead, with Carolina having just one out remaining. The pressure was then on for the Cowboys’ closer Sandro Batista (Pedra Preta, Brazil). After struggling with Wasted Days (Hart Cattle Co./Hale) in the chutes, Batista settled and left the chutes composed but was ultimately unseated at 4.67 seconds, cementing the win for Austin.

The Gamblers are now the lone team in the league to hold a perfect 4-0 record, while Carolina will begin the final night of PBR Outlaw Days 3-1. As competition concludes Saturday, Aug. 5, inside T-Mobile Center, the Gamblers will look to remain perfect when they play the Texas Rattlers, while the Carolina Cowboys attempt to rebound against the Nashville Stampede.

Derek Kolbaba Propels Oklahoma Freedom to Walk-Off Win Against Nashville Stampede During Second Night of PBR Camping World Team Series Action in Kansas City, Missouri

Oklahoma Freedom: 87.75 Nashville Stampede: 85.25

In what was arguably the most exciting game of the second night of competition for PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Camping World Team Series action in Kansas City, Missouri, the Oklahoma Freedom logged a walk-off win against the league’s reigning Champion Nashville Stampede, beating them by a slim 2.5 points.

After neither team scored in the first four frames of the game, it all came down to Derek Kolbaba (Walla Walla, Washington) for the Freedom and Silvano Alves (Pilar do Sul, Brazil) for the Stampede.

Kolbaba began the frame for the Freedom, climbing atop Phantom Fury (Jane Clark/Gene Owen). The Washington native, however, wasn’t able to leave the chutes, ultimately awarded a re-ride and giving Oklahoma the final say in the game.

It was then up to Alves to keep the Stampede’s hopes of victory alive. Tasked with Falcon Eddie (Lari Crane/Gene Owen), Alves matched the animal athlete jump-for-jump, making the requisite 8 as the electric crowd erupted in raucous cheer. Marked 85.25 points, Alves forced Oklahoma into a must-ride situation.

It then came down to Kolbaba atop Norse God (Jane Clark/Gene Owen). In what would be his fifth career walk-off score, Kolbaba dominated the Canadian-born bull, marked a crucial 87.75 points to give Oklahoma a 2.5-point victory over Nashville, with the final scoreboard reading 87.75-85.25.

The Oklahoma Freedom are now a perfect 2-0 at PBR Outlaw Days, while Nashville slipped to 0-2. The Freedom will look to continue their dominance on the final night of action inside T-Mobile Center on Saturday, Aug. 5, when they play the host Kansas City Outlaws, and the Stampede will chase their first victory at the event when they take on the Carolina Cowboys.

Kansas City Outlaws Remain Flawless at Home, Delivering Near-Perfect Game to Defeat the Missouri Thunder and Win the Battle for the Show Me State

Kansas City Outlaws: 349.5 Missouri Thunder: 259.25

Backed by a raucous crowd, the Kansas City Outlaws delivered a near-perfect game on the second night of competition for the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Camping World Team Series event inside T-Mobile Center to not only defeat the Missouri Thunder and win the battle for the Show Me State, but also improve to a flawless 2-0 at their Outlaw Days homestand.

A back-and-forth slugfest for the entire game, the Outlaws jumped to an early lead in the first frame. Following a buckoff from Joao Lucas Campos (Porto Feliz, Brazil) for the Missouri Thunder, Wingson Henrique da Silva (Navirai, Brazil) conquered Boomerang (Blake Sharp/Stacy Utz/Rachel Farris/Tristen Jones/Stacey Rickman) to give his team an 84.25-point lead entering the second.

The Thunder, however, were quick to respond. In what would be the team’s first qualified ride of the season, Felipe Furlan (Sales Oliveira, Brazil) delivered for Missouri, covering Cuttin Torch (D&H Cattle Co./Flinn) for 87.5 points to give his team a 3.25-point lead. That advantage, however, would be short-lived. In the bottom of the third, Cassio Dias (Sao F. de Sales, Brazil) logged what would be the high-marked ride of the game in his first-ever PBR out on United States soil, dominating War Daddy (TNT Bucking Bulls/Hart Cattle Co.) for a commanding 89 points. The crucial points put Kansas City back on top by 85.75 points ahead of the third.

While the Thunder then looked to Luke Parkinson (Denman, New South Wales) to continue the momentum, he fell short of the requisite 8, upended by Homeboy (K-C Bucking Bulls/Joe & Nina Webb) in a hard-fought 6.33 seconds. Continuing their seemingly unstoppable momentum, the Outlaws added to their lead in the bottom of the frame as team Captain Marcus Mast (Middlebury, Indiana) bested Roc Solid (K-C Bucking Bulls/TCB Ranch) for 88.5 points to give his team their first two-bull lead of the night, leading the Thunder by 174.25 points entering the fourth.

As the penultimate round of outs got underway, Andrew Alvidrez (Seminole, Texas) faced a must-ride situation as he settled atop Sky’s The Limit (Jane Clark/Gene Owen). Converting under pressure, Alvidrez remained centered atop the animal athlete, reaching the whistle for a much-needed 85 points. The qualified ride put Missouri within 89.25 points of the lead. Leonardo Castro Ferreira (Cassilandia, Brazil) was then positioned to clinch the win early for the Outlaws. The young gun erupted from the chutes aboard Canadian-born Yellowknife (Blake Sharp/Michael Floyd), remaining in perfect time as the clock reached 8 and the electric fans inside T-Mobile Center went wild. The effort was not only awarded 87.75 points, but also cemented the Outlaws’ second consecutive win at their homestand.

Despite already being handed the loss, the Missouri Thunder concluded the game on a strong note as Kade Madsen (Honeyville, Utah) rode Black As Coal (K-C Bucking Bulls/Bull Creek Bucking Bulls) for 86.75 points in the top of the fifth. However, all eyes were on the Outlaws as they readied to potentially make history. In the bottom of the fifth, should their closer Koltin Hevalow (Smithville, Missouri) cover Choctaw Bingo (TNT Bucking Bulls/Hart Cattle Co.), the Outlaws would deliver just the third perfect game in PBR Teams history and the first-ever at their homestand. After a gritty effort atop the bull, Hevalow was initially awarded a qualified ride, but the out was sent into immediate review. Upon close inspection by PBR’s officials, Hevalow was deemed to have lost contact with the rope at a heartbreaking 7.66 seconds.

The Outlaws may not have logged a perfect game, but their 349.5-259.25 victory against the Thunder won them the battle for the Show Me State and improved them to a perfect 2-0 at their second annual homestand. When action in Kansas City concludes on Saturday, Aug. 5, the Outlaws will look to complete their homestand sweep when they play the Oklahoma Freedom, and the Thunder will seek their first victory in Missouri when they play the Arizona Ridge Riders.
