OCEAN CITY, Md. – Just steps from the roaring Atlantic Ocean, Elizmar Jeremias (Anapu, Brazil) and Brandon Chambers (Newport, North Carolina) dominated the second night of competition for the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Challenger Series’ Ocean City Seacrets Classic, splitting the Round 2 victory to catapult to the top of the event leaderboard ahead of Championship Sunday.
Jeremias and Chambers delivered matching 85.5-point rides to collect 23 Challenger Series points.
They covered Left Eye Lopez (Tex Brothers Ranch/5S Bucking Bulls) and Buster (Cornwell Bucking Bulls) respectively.
For Jeremias, the 8-second effort was a reversal of fortunes from Round 1 when he was upended by Big Cannon (Blake Sharp) in a quick 2.92 seconds. Chambers also rebounded Saturday night, changing the tide from the 2.81-second buckoff dealt to him by Martins Maniac (Dave Martin/Mike Miller Bucking Bulls) in the opening round.
Round 1 winner Zane Cook (Fort Gibson, Oklahoma) slipped to third on the event leaderboard, now 1 point back of the event lead.
After lighting up the Ocean City Inlet on Friday, dominating Walkaway Joe (Lucas Manning Bucking Bulls) for 84.5 points, he was unable to continue the momentum in Round 2, tossed by Big Whiskey (Tex Brothers Ranch/5S Bucking Bulls) in a heart-breaking 5.11 seconds.
Cook has currently netted 28 Challenger Series points in Ocean City.
During an evening of competition that included eight qualified rides, Dakota Warnken (Wakarusa, Indiana) delivered a third-place score in Round 2 to ride to fourth on the event leaderboard.
Warnken rode Slammer (Cornwell Bucking Bulls) for 83 points to net 17 Challenger Series points.
Rounding out the Top 5 on the event leaderboard, Marcus Brubacker (Ephrata, Pennsylvania) is fifth overall in the PBR Ocean City Seacrets Classic courtesy of his fourth-place ride in Round 2.
Brubacker conquered Craze Addiction (Cornwell Bucking Bulls) for 81.5 points, earning 16 Challenger Series points in the process.
Eder Barbosa (Goiabeira, Brazil), Afonso Quintino (Sao Luis dos Montes Belos, Brazil), Briggs Madsen (Tremonton, Utah) and Brandon Ballard (New Hope, Kentucky) are the remaining riders that will begin Championship Sunday with a score. Each contender made the requisite 8 in Round 2. Quinto, Madsen and Ballard all made business decisions, declining re-rides to keep crucial ride score points.
Barbosa is sixth via his 81-point ride atop Bar Fly (J Bar W), Quinto rode Pickle (Cornwell bucking Bulls) for 65.5 points to rise to seventh, Madsen is eighth after conquering Bones (Cornwell Bucking Bulls) for 65 points, and Ballard completes the leaderboard in ninth after he topped Devil’s Advocate (Cornwell Bucking Bulls/Tilton Bucking Bulls) for 62 points.
Action for the PBR Ocean City Seacrets Classic will conclude with Round 3 and the championship round on Sunday, June 4. Action gets underway at 2:00 p.m. ET.
