Carolina Cowboys announce 2023 PBR Teams game schedule

Carolina to take on the Arizona Ridge Riders, Oklahoma Freedom and league’s inaugural Champion Nashville Stampede at team’s Cowboy Days homestand in Greensboro, North Carolina Sept. 22-24.

By Kacie Albert

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Ahead of the second season for the ground-breaking PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Teams league, the Carolina Cowboys, the Carolinas’ first-ever professional bull riding team, today announced their 2023 game schedule.

The 2023 PBR Teams season will include a three-day homestand hosted by each of the eight founding teams, accompanied by two, two-day neutral site events. During event days, each of the league’s eight founding teams will compete in one five-on-five bull riding game against another team, with each team competing in 28 games throughout the regular season. The PBR Teams Championship returns to T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on October 20-22.

The Carolina Cowboys will hold their second-annual homestand, and eighth event of the regular-season, Cowboy Days, on Sept. 22-24 in Greensboro, North Carolina, at Greensboro Coliseum. During their event, they will play the Arizona Ridge Riders (Sept. 22), Oklahoma Freedom (Sept. 23) and Nashville Stampede (Sept. 24).

Throughout the campaign, the Carolina Cowboys will play the reigning PBR Teams Champion Nashville Stampede four times as they look to bring the title to the Carolinas this October.

Every game during the season will be carried by CBS, including seven “Game of the Week” broadcasts, CBS Sports Network, or Pluto TV. The Carolina Cowboys will be featured in two Game of the Week broadcasts. Their telecasts will include their game against the Arizona Ridge Riders in Cheyenne, Wyoming, airing on July 30, and showdown with the Oklahoma Freedom during their North Carolina homestand airing on Sept. 24.

During the inaugural year of competition for PBR Teams, the Carolina Cowboys concluded the regular-season fourth in the standings, 15-13 overall in game play.

The Cowboys notably logged the first 90-point ride in the league’s history, when Boudreaux Campbell covered Dr. Campbell for 90 points en route to the team’s win in their opening game against the Arizona Ridge Riders in Cheyenne.

In addition to winning one regular-season event (Gambler Days in Austin, Texas), they led the league in bonus points (69) and held the No. 1 position in the league for three consecutive weeks, first ascending to the top spot after going 2-1 and finishing second at the inaugural homestand.

At the inaugural PBR Team Series Championship in Las Vegas, under the leadership of PBR Co-Founder and Head Coach Jerome Davis, the Carolina Cowboys delivered a strong performance in Round 1 before being eliminated on the second day of competition for the progressive elimination tournament.

The surprising twists and turns of the league’s inaugural season were captured in the critically acclaimed docuseries, The Ride, streaming now on Prime Video. The series prominently features several members of the Cowboys’ roster, including Campbell and 2022 PBR World Champion Daylon Swearingen.

During the Teams’ offseason, members of the Cowboys’ roster excelled. All returning to the team for the 2023 season, Campbell finished No. 8 in the 2023 PBR World Championship race, while Cooper Davis finished No. 9 as he chased his second gold buckle.

At the 2023 PBR Teams Draft, the Cowboys held the No. 1 and No. 2 overall picks after making key offseason trades with the Nashville Stampede and Kansas City Outlaws. With their key picks, the Cowboys drafted seven-time PRCA champion Sage Kimzey and 2021 National Finals Rodeo aggregate winner Josh Frost, fresh off being crowned the 2023 PBR Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour Champion.

Kimzey will be joined on the team by his younger brother Trey Kimzey, who was selected by the team in the second round of the 2023 PBR Teams Reserve Roster Draft.

The remainder of the roster includes: Sandro Batista, Daniel Feitosa, Dawson Branton and Flavio Zivieri.

The Carolina Cowboys will host their second annual homestand, Cowboy Days, on Sept. 22-24 in Greensboro, North Carolina, at Greensboro Coliseum. The action begins at 7:45 p.m. ET on Friday, September 22, 6:45 p.m. ET on Saturday, September 23 and 1:45 p.m. ET on Sunday, September 24.

Tickets for the event are on sale now, and start at $20, taxes and fees not included. They can be purchased online at Ticketmaster.com and PBR.com, at the Greensboro Coliseum Box Office, or by calling PBR customer service at 1-800-732-1727.

Three-day ticket packages are available, offering fans a 15% discount on select price levels.
