Newly inked Texas Rattlers rider Dawson Gleaves wins PBR Stockyards Showcase in Fort Worth

Garnering 54 point, Gleaves catapults to No. 4 in the Challenger Series standings

FORT WORTH, Texas – As the weekly PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Stockyards Showcase resumed Thursday evening in Fort Worth, Texas, no rider was more dominant than the Lone Star State’s own Dawson Gleaves (Amarillo, Texas). Just days after being inked to the Texas Rattlers’ practice squad, Gleavs went a perfect 2-for-2 inside Cowtown Coliseum to win the event and catapult to No. 4 in the early race or the Challenger Series Championship.

The 21-year-old got off to a quick start in Round 1, delivering the third-best score when he covered HP-922G (D&H Cattle Company) for 84 points.

Gleaves then climbed the leaderboard in the second round, proving why the hometown bull riding team competing in the separate PBR Team Series drafted him. Matched up with Rafter H 849 (Rafter H Rodeo Livestock), Gleaves reached the requisite 8 for 86 points to clinch the victory.

Garnering 54 Challenger Series points, Gleaves catapulted to No. 4 in the individual standings, now within 21 points of No. 1 Jared Parsonage (Maple Creek, Saskatchewan).

As the only other rider to cover both of his bovine athlete opponents, Alan de Souza (Taubate, Brazil) was second, netting 34 Challenger Series points.

Souza rode Smoke Down (D&H Cattle Company) for 85.5 points in Round 1 before going the distance atop Big R (Stockyards Pro Rodeo) for 78 points in Round 2.

Third was Round 1 winner Thiago Salgado (Navirai, Brazil).

Going 1-for-2, the Nashville Stampede standout rode HP-932G (D&H Cattle Company) in the opening round for an event-best 87.5 points to net 26 Challenger Series points.

Salgado fell just short of the event win in the final round when he was upended by CMSR-883 (Stockyards Pro Rodeo) in a heartbreaking 7.66 seconds.

The Arizona Ridge Riders’ Vitor Losnake (Bauru, Brazil) was fourth.

Despite being bucked off by Sweet Train (D&H Cattle Co./Gordon/OK Corralis) in 4.14 seconds in the opening round, Losnake made the most of his second chance in Round 2 when he bested Rafter H 195 (Rater H Rodeo Livestock) for a round-winning 87 points.

Losnake left the iconic Fort Worth Stockyards having earned 23 Challenger Series points.

Rounding out the Top 5, and tying for fifth, was Dantey Eldridge (Yoakum, Texas) and the Austin Gamblers’ Cort McFadden (Novice, Texas).

Both riders delivered 86-point rides in Round 2 to earn 16.5 Challenger Series points.

Eldridge covered Minion (Brickyard Bulls/Melton Bull Co./Stockyards Pro Rodeo), while McFadden outlasted Wicked Sensation (Rafter H Rodeo).

In the bull pen, Domino (D&H Cattle Co./Buck Cattle Co.) and Snake Eyes (D&H Cattle Company) tied for the Bull of the Event, each marked an impressive 45 points for their Round 1 outs.

Domino bucked off Leonardo Lima (Vale do Paraiso, Brazil) in 2.24 seconds, while Snake Eyes tossed Clay Padgett (Smithville, Texas) in 2.16 seconds.

The PBR Stockyards Showcase continues Thursday, June 1. Action inside Cowtown Coliseum will get underway at 7:30 p.m. CT.
