INDIANAPOLIS – In front of a capacity crowd at the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) ZipRecruiter Invitational, presented by Ariat, at Gainbridge Field House, 39 of the top bull riders in the world were no match for Round 1 winner Tate Pollmeier (Ft. Scott, Kansas) and his standout 88.25-point ride.

The rookie from Kansas, who made his league debut during the inaugural PBR Team Series season in late 2022 as part of the Oklahoma Freedom, was matched with Bottom’s Up (K Bar C Bucking Bulls/ TCB Ranch) on Saturday night of the two-day event.

As Pollmeier blew from the chutes, he matched the athletic bovine jump-for-jump until the buzzer sounded. Recording an impressive 88.25-point score, the 18-year-old young gun collected a career-first round win.

For his winning efforts in Round 1, Pollmeier collected 28 points to jump from No. 31 in the Unleash The Beast standings to No. 24 as he heads into Championship Sunday atop the event leaderboard.

In all, there were 14 qualified rides on night one in Indiana.

Hot on Pollmeier’s heels was Daniel Keeping (Montague, Texas) with a second-place finish in Round 1.

Clinging tight to the No. 5 spot in the world standings, the Texas Rattlers standout was paired with Casper (Crescent City Bucking Bulls/ Lari Crane/ Gene Owen). Launching from the chutes as the third rider of the night, the 23-year-old cowboy recorded the event’s second qualified ride, receiving an 87.75-point score.

Keeping collected 18 points for the second-place finish.

Starting the night at No. 35 in the UTB standings, Pollmeier’s Oklahoma Freedom teammate Casey Roberts (Munford, Alabama) slid up two spots to No. 32 after besting Little n’ Loud (Lucas Manning Bucking Bulls).

His 87-point score claimed third place in Round 1 and netted 17 UTB points.

Two men rounded out the Top 5 with a shared fourth-place finish.

Derek Kolbaba (Walla Walla, Washington) and Mauricio Gulla Moreira (Gaviao Peixoto, Brazil) had the full house of Indiana fans on fire with their matching 86.75-point scores.

Up first in the dynamic duo and rounding out the night of success for Oklahoma Freedom athletes, Kolbaba was paired with Pearl Jam (D&H Cattle Co./ Buck Cattle Co.). While bucking in his typically flawless form, the muscular animal athlete was no match for the Washington cowboy.

Moreira was up next, rocketing from the chutes aboard Roc Solid (K Bar C Bucking Bulls/ TCB Ranch). Although it seemed he might not make the 8, the determined 2022 Arizona Ridge Rider conquered his opponent.

Indianapolis’s opening night – the fifth time the world’s premier bull riding organization has visited the city – saw a sixth-place finish from current world No. 1 Andrew Alvidrez (Seminole, Texas).

Paired with Rockville (Blake Sharp/Koe Wetzel/ Giovanni/Morris), the Missouri Thunder cowboy recorded an 86.5-point score. Despite not being in the Top 5 headed into championship Sunday, Alvidrez held onto the No. 1 ranking in the standings.

Alvidrez and his fellow athletes will have the opportunity to gain ground in Round 2 followed by the championship round as the PBR ZipRecruiter Invitational, presented by Ariat, continues on Sunday, Jan. 28, at 1:45 p.m. CST. Championship Saturday will also be televised on CBS Sports Network at 8 p.m. EST.
