SPOKANE, Wash. – The energy from a sold-out crowd filled Spokane Arena on Saturday night as Austin Richardson (Dallas, Texas) clinched the third Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour (PWVT) event win of his career at the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Spokane Classic.
As the extraordinary animal athletes of the PBR dominated all but seven of their 35 matchups throughout the opening round, the Austin Gamblers man was paired with Faded Dreams (Wentz Bucking Bulls). Richardson’s solid Round 1 score of 86 points aboard the bovine put him through to the championship round.
Richardson was then only man to then go 2-for-2 and have a flawless night as he bested Freaky Friday (Corey & Lange Rodeo) for 87.5 points.
The Texas cowboy leaves Spokane with 126 Velocity Global points.
Utah native Bill Henry (Manilla, Utah) was hot on Richardson’s heels, capturing second place overall after being in the lead prior to the final round.
In Round 1, Henry was paired with Inky (Corey & Lange Rodeo) for 87 points, landing him atop the leaderboard before the final round of the night.
He then set his sights on the championship round, but was tossed to the ground by his bovine opponent TC (Big Bend/ Fling Five) in 7.64 seconds.
Henry collected 78 Velocity Global points for his efforts for his 1-for-2 night.
Dawson Branton (Jefferson, Oregon) kept the 1-for-2 streak going by besting his Round 1 opponent Buck Nation (Wentz Bucking Bulls) for 85.5 points. He was then bucked off by Black Jack (Corey & Lange Rodeo) in the championship round in a mere 2.68 seconds.
Branton earned 53 Velocity Global points for his third-place finish.
Josh Frost (Randlett, Utah) and Ray Mayo (Clearlake, California) finished in a tie for fourth-place at the one-night Spokane event.
In Round 1, Frost was paired with Gritty (Howell Rodeo Company Inc. / Cow Punch Productions, LLC) for 84.5 points. Mayo mirrored the score in his confident ride aboard his first-round opponent Buckeye (Howell Rodeo Company Inc. / Cow Punch Productions, LLC).
Neither cowboy made the 8 in the championship round, but their earlier rides netted them 34.5 Velocity Global points each.
The talented bull riders of the PWVT will next head to Greenville, South Carolina, for the PBR Greenville Invitational at Bon Secours Wellness Arena Jan. 20-21. Additionally, in a double-up weekend, the PWVT will also be back in action again in Reno, Nevada, for the Reno Rumble Jan. 20-21 at the Reno Events Center.
