COLLEGE STATION, Texas – For the third time in as many years, PBR’s (Professional Bull Riders) Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour will buck into College Station, Texas, returning to Reed Arena on April 28-29, 2023 with the PBR Aggieland Classic.
For two nights only, some of the best bull riders in the world will battle the sport’s rankest bovine athletes in the ultimate showdown of man vs. beast in one of the most exciting live sporting events to witness.
During the 2023 season, the PBR will celebrate its 30th anniversary since 20 cowboys broke away from the traditional rodeo with the belief that bull riding could be a standalone sport. Since their trailblazing initiative, the PBR has grown into a global phenomenon awarding nearly $300 million in prize money.
The upcoming PBR Aggieland Classic will mark the 27th event of the new individual season for the PBR’s expansion series. Eventgoers will watch on as riders vie for crucial points in the race to be crowned the 2023 PBR Velocity Tour Champion.
When PBR last travelled to College Station in April 2022, veteran Colorado rider Elijah Mora (Wiggins, Colorado) reached a crucial career milestone. Backed by two round-winning rides, Mora won his career-first Velocity Tour event inside Reed Arena.
Mora was quick to strike in Round 1, surging to the event lead when he covered Axel Surgeon (Halpain Bucking Bulls) for 87.5 points.
Mora remained atop the leaderboard as Championship Saturday got underway, winning Round 2 when he made the requisite 8 atop Major Nelson (3J Ranch) for an unrivaled 88 points.
While he failed to reach the whistle in the final round, brought down by Bougee (UTC/Sellers Bucking Bulls) in a quick 1.2 seconds, Mora’s opening round scores proved enough to clinch the victory.
PBR’s Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour debuted in Aggieland in 2021 as Paulo Ferreira Lima (Bezerros, Brazil) delivered a perfect 3-for-3 performance in front of a raucous sold-out crowd to capture his first event win since 2018 on the organization’s expansion series.
The bull riding action for the PBR Aggieland Classic begins with Round 1 at 8:00 p.m. CT on Friday, April 28, followed by Round 2 and the championship round at 7:00 p.m. CT on Saturday, April 29. Forty bull riders will get on one bull each in Round 1. The Top 36 riders from Round 1 will advance to Round 2 Saturday evening. The riders’ individual two-round scores will be totaled with the Top 12 advancing to the championship round for one more out and a chance at the event title.
