WORCESTER, Mass. – For the seventh time in the sport’s history, PBR’s (Professional Bull Riders) Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour will buck into Worcester, Massachusetts, returning to DCU Center on February 25, 2023 for their only Massachusetts stop with the PBR Worcester Rumble.
For one night only, some of the best bull riders in the world will battle the sport’s rankest bovine athletes in the ultimate showdown of man vs. beast in one of the most exciting live sporting events to witness.
During the 2023 season, the PBR will celebrate its 30th anniversary since 20 cowboys broke away from the traditional rodeo with the belief that bull riding could be a standalone sport. Since their trailblazing initiative, the PBR has grown into a global phenomenon awarding nearly $300 million in prize money.
The upcoming PBR Worcester Rumble will mark the 15th event of the new individual season for the PBR’s expansion series. Eventgoers will watch on as riders vie for crucial points in the race to be crowned the 2023 PBR Velocity Tour Champion.
When the PBR last travelled to Worcester in February 2022, Casey Coulter (Kirksville, Missouri) reached a critical career milestone. As the only rider to go a perfect 2-for-2, Coulter won the tour stop, marking his career-first victory on the organization’s expansion series.
Coulter was quick to strike in Round 1, registering a qualified ride aboard Fort Down (JR Phillips) in the bovine athlete’s PBR debut. Reaching the requisite 8 for 84.5 points, Coulter advanced to the championship round tied for third on the event leaderboard.
In the final round, the veteran Missouri rider covered Crazed Addiction (Cornwell Bucking Bulls) for another 84.5-point score to tie for the round win and clinch the golden finish.
For his efforts, Coulter earned a critical 38 world points, surging 21 positions in the rankings from No. 58 to No. 37. Coulter concluded the 2022 individual season ranked a career-best No. 42 in the world and reaching his first PBR World Finals.
Other past winners in Worcester include: Tye Chandler (2020; Celina, Texas); Daniel Tinsman (2019; Farmland Indiana), Juan Carlos Contreras (2018; Huichapan, Mexico), Emilio Resende (2017; Santa Helena, Brazil), Winston Lopez (2016; Bandera, Texas) and Austin Meier (2015; Kinta, Oklahoma).
The bull riding action for the PBR Worcester Rumble will begin at 7:00 p.m. ET on Saturday, February 25.
On Saturday evening, all 40 competing riders will attempt one bull each in Round 1. Following the opening round, the Top 10 will then advance to the championship round where they will attempt one final bull, all in an effort to be crowned the event champion.
