PUEBLO, Colo. – The PBR is shocked and saddened to learn of the passing of Demetrius Allen, 27, this past weekend in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Allen, who was best known as Ouncie Mitchell, qualified for the PBR World Finals in 2019 when he finished a career-best 55th in the world standings.
Mitchell, who received a firefighting degree from Houston Community College and had a passion for fishing, grew up near Houston and got on his first steer at 5 years old. He eventually turned pro at 18 and made his PBR debut at the 2014 Touring Pro Division event in San Antonio. Mitchell was 43-for-209 at all levels of PBR competition with three event wins.
Mitchell was most recently making a push for the National Finals Rodeo and was ranked 23rd in the PRCA bull riding standings and No. 2 in the PRCA’s Rookie of the Year bull riding race. He had just won the bull riding competition at the Tri-State Rodeo in Fort Madison, Iowa, with an 87.5-point ride on Too Tropical.
Mitchell won the Bill Pickett Rodeo Invitational in Las Vegas last year with his father, Teaspoon Mitchell, cowboy protecting him in the arena.
He is survived by his 4-year-old daughter.
The PBR extends its heartfelt condolences to Teaspoon, Ouncie’s mother Laquita, cousin Ezekiel, and the rest of his family and friends.
