Getting the Job Done: Behind the chutes of the first PBR Team Series event in Cheyenne

PBR Team Series: Getting the Job Done, presented by ZipRecruiter, airs Thursdays at 8:30 PM ET on RidePass on Pluto TV.

By Darci Miller

PUEBLO, Colo. – After all the pressure of the inaugural PBR Team Series Draft, presented by ZipRecruiter, the grind of selecting rosters and the appetizer of the two preseason events, the PBR Team Series finally moved into the main course when action kicked off in Cheyenne, Wyoming, this July.

The fourth episode of PBR Team Series: Getting the Job Done, presented by ZipRecruiter, brings fans up close and personal with how all the games went, what the coaches said in their pep-talks and everything else that went into those historic two days of competition. The series airs on RidePass on Pluto TV, with episode four set to debut on Thursday, Sept. 22 at 8:30 p.m. ET.

It’s been a few months since Cheyenne, so let’s refresh our memories and whet our appetites by looking back at the Top 8 rides from the first event in PBR Team Series history.

1. Daylon Swearingen (Bonus Round) – 92.5 points on I’m Legit Too

The 2022 PBR World Champion is currently the leader in the MVP race, and he started the season off strong in Cheyenne. The Carolina Cowboys finished second in Cheyenne, going 1-1, thanks to Swearingen’s heroics in the Bonus Round. He rode I’m Legit Too for 92.5 points, earning and an ever-important eight bonus points, in what was the highest-scoring ride all season until Chase Outlaw rode Woopaa for 94.5 points last weekend.

2. Jose Vitor Leme (Bonus Round) – 90.75 points on Montana Jacket

No. 2 in the MVP race, the two-time World Champion got things going for the Austin Gamblers in Cheyenne with a predictably strong performance. The Gamblers also went 1-1, and Leme’s 90.75-point ride on Montana Jacket in the Bonus Round secured third place for Austin.

3. Casey Roberts (Freedom vs. Gamblers) – 90.25 points on MagicBru

The Oklahoma Freedom dropped their game to the Gamblers, 257.5-176.5, but rookie Casey Roberts had his signature moment in the effort. He notched the highest-scoring ride of his PBR career – and first 90-point ride – when he rode MagicBru for 90.25 points in the inaugural Team Series event.

4. Boudreaux Campbell (Cowboys vs. Ridge Riders) – 90 points on Dr. Campbell

The Cowboys’ picked up their first win in Cheyenne at the expense of the Arizona Ridge Riders, and came thanks to fireworks from Boudreaux Campbell. The 2020 PBR Rookie of the Year rode the appropriately named Dr. Campbell for a cool 90 points, helping his squad to its second-place finish.

5. Adriano Salgado (Thunder vs. Rattlers) – 89.25 points on American Gangster

Here’s a fun tidbit to tuck away for trivia night: The first ride in PBR Team Series history was notched by Adriano Salgado aboard American Gangster. Salgado’s 89.25-point ride for the Missouri Thunder was enough to secure his team the win against the Texas Rattlers, presented by Ariat. The Thunder would go on to win the event.

6. Jose Vitor Leme (Gamblers vs. Ridge Riders) – 89 points on The Right Stuff

The Gamblers and the Ridge Riders are now two of the top teams in the league, but back in Cheyenne, they were just two teams looking for their first win. The Ridge Riders scored 171.5 points by the time the Gamblers were down to their last out, so there was no way for Leme to singlehandedly win the game himself. He did, however, put up 89 points aboard The Right Stuff.

7. Andrew Alvidrez (Thunder vs. Stampede) – 88.5 points on Chanler’s Dream

The Thunder beat the Nashville Stampede, 174.25-87, when the two then-undefeated teams faced off on the second night of competition. Andrew Alvidrez’s 88.5 points on Chanler’s Dream was enough to win it for the Thunder, who went 2-0 to take the event win.

8. Daylon Swearingen (Cowboys vs. Stampede) – 88 points on WSM’s Nasty Wishes

When the Cowboys and the Stampede battled it out in Cheyenne, it was a good old-fashioned shoot-out. While the Cowboys rode three of their bulls for 257.25 points, the Stampede went 4-for-5, racking up a combined 337.75 points and the game win. Swearingen, however, turned in the best performance of the game with his 88-point ride on WSM’s Nasty Wishes.
