STOCKTON, Calif. – As the Stockton Invitational PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Challenger Series event in Stockton, California, concluded on Saturday night, Idaho cowboy Bruin Bradshaw (Challis, Idaho) was the only man to successfully go 2-for-2 to collect the win.
With a less-than-ideal start to his Saturday night after a mere 79.5-point score aboard Rocker (Walking Lazy J Bull Team) in Round 1, Bradshaw knew he had to give the second round his all.
Dialed in and focused on the back of the chutes as the second round began, the young gun prepared for his matchup with Vinter (Flying U/ Cindy Rosser).
In a uniquely formatted double-header night that featured two regular rounds, it was ultimately Bradshaw’s 83-point score in Saturday’s final round that clinched the first Challenger Series victory of his career.
The 21-year-old leaves California with 40 Challenger Series points and a check for $7,544.20.
With a standout ride aboard Big Heart (Leffew Bucking Bulls) in the opening round, Santiago Castellanos (Dixon, California) finished the night in second place.
Despite recording the highest ride score of the event with an 87.5-point ride in Round 1, Castellanos faltered in Round 2 when Past Midnight (Humpz and Hornz) tossed him to the ground after 5.48 seconds.
Courtesy of his first-round lead, Castellanos leaves Stockton with 27 Challenger Series points.
Oregon man Dawson Branton (Jefferson, Oregon) earned the third-place finish.
Paired with Fred (Evan Matthews), Branton’s 85-point ride score in Round 1 was the second-highest of the night.
Despite not competing in Round 2, the 21-year-old left the Stockton Arena with 14 Challenger Series points.
Kyle Eaton (Chico, California) was among the many that were no match for the extreme animal athleticism in Round 1 as he was tossed to the ground in 3.21 seconds by Wicked Chaos (Leffew Bucking Bulls).
However, Eaton had his home-state crowd cheering as he redeemed himself in Round 2 with an 81-point score aboard Sharp Shooter (Humpz and Hornz/ Frances Dandy) to collect a fourth-place finish.
The 23-year-old concluded the night by collecting 10 Challenger Series points.
Veteran rider Gage Gay (Staley, North Carolina) rounded out the Top 5 at the Stockton Invitational.
Despite being bested by Hired Gun (Aaron Williams) in 6.47 seconds in the opening round, Gay confidently rode Senoma Creek (Flying U/ Cindy Rosser) for 80 points in Round 2.
Despite his falter as the night began, Gay collected 7 Challenger Series points.
The top bull riders of the PBR Challenger Series will next travel to the Minot Municipal Auditorium in Minot, North Dakota, for the Minot Y’s Men PBR, Sept. 23-24. In a double-up weekend, the Challenger Series will also host the PBR Autolite Fram Invitational at Eaglebank Arena in Fairfax, Virginia, Sept. 24-25.
