Carolina Cowboys: 173 points
Kansas City Outlaws: 84.75
In the opening game of the PBR Team Series Gambler Days, the Carolina Cowboys defeated the Kansas City Outlaws with two rides.
Mason Taylor (Maypearl, Texas), who came into the game 5-for-12 on the season, made an explosive entrance for the Cowboys, covering Chanler’s Dream (Universal Pro Rodeo) away from his hand for 87 points. Kyler Oliver (Roy, Utah), back from a broken neck, was up first for the Kansas City Outlaws but could not answer for his team, bucked off by Nomad Max (Crooked Crown Bucking Bulls/Braswell Bucking Bulls) in 2.2 seconds.
Up next for the Cowboys was Boudreaux Campbell (Crockett, Texas). Matched with Batter Up (Crooked Crown Bucking Bulls/Braswell Bucking Bulls), Campbell was bucked off in a hard-fought 6.98 seconds. Quick to respond, Rafael Henrique dos Santos (Sebastianopolis, Brazil), off-balance but gutting out the 8, recorded the first qualified ride for the Outlaws, earning 84.75 points aboard Hell Right (D&H Cattle Company).
After scoreless third and fourth frames, the last frame was a battle between two team captains and top draft picks: the Cowboys’ Daylon Swearingen (Piffard, New York) and the Outlaws’ Dalton Kasel (Muleshoe, Texas). Swearingen didn’t log a score but was awarded a re-ride, giving the Cowboys a second opportunity to win the first game of the weekend. In a must-ride situation, Kasel was unable to meet the requisite 8 aboard Mule Train (Martinez/Porter Cattle Co.) to keep the Outlaws in the game, bucked off in 6.15 seconds.
With an already-secured victory and a re-ride opportunity, Swearingen dominated the last bull of the night, Harold’s Genuine Risk (M Rafter E Bucking Bulls), for 86 points. The Carolina Cowboys earned their sixth team win, 173-84.75, over the Outlaws.
As PBR Gambler Days continues Saturday evening, the Carolina Cowboys (6-5) will look to continue their momentum when they play the Oklahoma Freedom (4-7), while the Kansas City Outlaws (4-7) will attempt to rebound against the Missouri Thunder (7-4).
