Flawless Novais Wins PBR Challenger Series residency event in Fort Worth, Texas
Going a perfect 2-for-2, the Nashville Stampede rider garnered 38 Challenger Series points Sunday.
FORT WORTH, Tex. – As an electric crowd watched on inside the iconic Cowtown Coliseum Sunday afternoon, Nashville Stampede contender Fernando Henrique Novais (Pereira Barreto, Brazil) delivered a perfect 2-for-2 performance to win the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Challenger Series’ Sunday at Cowtown residency event.
Novais first put points on the board in Round 1 when he made the requisite 8 aboard The Bandit (Cord McCoy/Larry & Kathy Miller), marked 83 points.
Positioned second on the event leaderboard, Novais next readied to take on Giraffe Bull (Silent 7/Hilton Bull Co.). Matching the bovine jump-for-jump, Novais was scored 84.5 points to clinch the event win.
Courtesy of his golden finish, Novais earned 38 Challenger Series points.
Fellow Nashville Stampede rider Thiago Salgado (Navirai, Brazil) was second, collecting 29 Challenger Series points.
As the only other contender to be flawless in Fort Worth, Salgado was unrivaled in Round 1, delivering the best score when he covered Razzmatazz (M Rafter E/High View Cattle) for 86.5 points.
Salgado, however, was unable to defend his position atop the leaderboard after he was awarded just 70 points in the championship round for his qualified ride atop Sinister (Shuler Bucking Bulls).
Competing alongside his brother, Adriano Salgado (Batatais, Brazil) was third.
Despite being bucked off by El Guapo (X-Factor/Gentleman’s Club) in an ever-close 7.89 seconds in Round 1, Adriano had his hopes of victory renewed when he advanced to the final round on time.
Adriano was quick to rebound, making the most of his second chance and winning the championship round with an 86.5-point effort aboard White Face (Pedra Bucking Bulls/Hookin’ W Ranch).
The charismatic Brazilian left the Lone Star State event having netted 17 Challenger Series points.
Arizona Ridge Riders’ Sandro Batista (Pedra Preta, Brazil) was fourth.
Batista’s outing, which earned him 9 Challenger Series points, was headlined by a 72-point ride on Santino (Shuler Bucking Bulls) in the final round.
Rounding out the Top 5 in fifth was Rafael Jose de Brito (Potirendaba, Brazil).
Going 1-for-2, the surging Texas Rattlers free agent conquered Harley (Silent 7/Hilton Bull Co.) for 49 points in the final round.
Brito earned 5 Challenger Series points.
In the bull pen, Tested’s Viper (Hookin’ W Ranch) bucked a cut above the rest. Crowned the Bull of the Event, the powerful animal athlete was marked 44.5 points in the championship round for his 2.98-second buckoff of Leonardo Lima (Vale do Paraiso, Brazil).
The PBR Challenger Series residency at Cowtown Coliseum continues Sunday, July 24. Action gets underway at 2 p.m. CT.
