AUSTIN, TEXAS — The Austin Gamblers, a founding part of the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Team Series, announced today the expansion of the team’s ownership group with the addition of Michael Dell, the chairman and chief executive officer of Dell Technologies. The announcement was made in connection with a community event celebrating the Gamblers team launch, scheduled for Thursday, April 28 at 11:30 a.m. at Republic Square in downtown Austin.
“I am pleased to invest alongside the Durbans in an exciting new professional sports team in the PBR,” said Michael Dell. “Importantly, the Gamblers promise to add a truly Texan dimension to Austin’s growing sports and entertainment offering, further enhancing our great community.”
“We’re thrilled to welcome Michael Dell to the Gamblers – there is no better partner to champion this new professional team sport across the greater Austin community and around the world,” said Egon and Abby Durban. “Together with Michael, and through JJ Gottsch’s stellar leadership and track record of success, we look forward to taking bull riding to the next level when the PBR Team Series kicks off next month.”
“The way we experience sports is constantly changing, and PBR is no exception because it’s integrated with the latest technologies,” JJ Gottsch, chief executive officer of the Austin Gamblers, said. “With Michael Dell in our ownership group, we are perfectly poised to revolutionize bull riding for fans.”
The PBR Team Series will begin next month with the rider draft on May 23 at Texas Live! in Arlington, Texas, with the Gamblers having the first pick after winning the first-ever team draft lottery. Each of the eight teams will have seven riders, and three practice squad members.
The inaugural PBR Team Series is a 10-event regular season schedule, leading into a November championship in Las Vegas with each team hosting a weekend homestand. The event will showcase traditional 8-second bull rides structured in a tournament-style format with all teams competing in head-to-head matchups.
The Gamblers will compete at the Moody Center—the first professional sports event at the facility—from August 26-28. The state-of-the-art arena features the Dell Technologies Plaza, the exterior of the facility that serves as an additional entertainment destination during all Gamblers events, along with year-round community events.
Fans can purchase tickets for the August 26-28 events by visiting PBR.com, Ticketmaster.com, MoodyCenterATX.com or by calling PBR Customer Service at 1-800-732-1727.
