Gloria wins Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour's Hampton Classic

Marcos Gloria's first event win of the season moved him to No. 58 in the world standings.

HAMPTON, Va. – As Saturday night came to a close inside the Hampton Coliseum, the bovine athletes of the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) dominated the night as only eight bull riders bested their opponents to record qualified rides.

Despite the night’s extraordinary display of animal athleticism, Marcos Gloria (Central de Minas, Brazil) emerged victorious, claiming the first Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour (PWVT) event win of his career at the Hampton Classic.

Matched against Quarter After (J Bar W) in the opening round of the night, Gloria fired from the chutes, bringing the Virginia crowd to its feet as he rode for an impressive 88.5 points.

In the championship round, the Brazilian was the only cowboy to make the 8. Gloria put up a score of 88 points on Wade Rock (Bonafide Bucking Bulls / Diamond M Pro Rodeo) to secure his first event win of the season.

As the only man to ride two bulls in Hampton, the veteran cowboy earned 41 world points and now sits at No. 58 in the world standings.

Thor Hoefer II (Priest River, Idaho) secured a second-place finish by earning an event-high score of 89.5 points aboard Latch Party (Richardson Land & Cattle Co) in Round 1. The Idaho cowboy’s stellar ride gave him a slight edge over Gloria going into the championship round.

Despite his best effort, Hoefer was thrown to the dirt by Pneu-Dart’s Coal Miner (Mike Miller Bucking Bulls) after 5.03 seconds in the championship round.

Hoefer collected 27 world points and holds the No. 74 spot in the world standings.

Finishing in third place, Grayson Cole (New Ringgold, Pennsylvania) kept the trend of 1-for-2 going.

In Round 1, the Pennsylvania young gun was paired with How Bout It (UTC / Sellers Bucking Bulls). Cole had the crowd roaring as he recorded an impressive 87-point ride score.

He was bucked off by Oreo (Dustin Denning) in the championship round after just 1.97 seconds.

Cole leaves Virginia at No. 53 in the world, collecting 13 world points for his efforts.

Joe Hostetler (Homer City, Pennsylvania) and Bob Mitchell (Steelville, Missouri) split a fourth-place finish when both men recorded identical 86.5-point ride scores as Saturday evening began.

In Round 1, Hostetler wowed the Hampton crowd when he held on until the whistle atop Bottoms Up (J Bar W). The 23-year-old couldn’t repeat his performance for the second round, coming down early off of Bolo (Richardson Land & Cattle Co).

Mitchell went jump-for-jump with White Walker (J Bar W) in the opening round of action. In the second round, the 22-year-old cowboy was tossed in 2.75 seconds by Neon Street (Triple T Bucking Bulls).

Both men took home with 6.5 world points. Hostetler, who is on the hunt to qualify for his first PBR World Finals in Las Vegas, now sits at No. 70 in the world standings, with Mitchell close behind at No. 75.

The Hampton weekend was also a stop on the Million Dollar Bull Team Challenge Fall Run. Sellers Bucking Bulls/ UTC took home first place, scoring 365.56 points, while Sho-Me Rodeo collected a second-place finish with 359.45.

The talented bull riders of the Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour will next head to Wheeling, West Virginia, for the Wheeling Invitational at Wesbanco Arena on Oct. 8-9. The action gets underway with Round 1 at 8 p.m. EDT on Friday, Oct. 8, followed by Round 2 and the championship round on Saturday, Oct. 9, at 7 p.m. EDT.
