By the Numbers: What to expect when the 2022 PBR World Finals heads to Fort Worth and Dickies Arena

The PBR World Finals will debut in Fort Worth, Texas, in May 2022.

By Darci Miller

PUEBLO, Colo. – In June, the PBR joined giant venue operator ASM Global and Forth Worth’s Stockyards Heritage Development Co. to announce a new joint venture to operate the venerable Cowtown Coliseum and to expand entertainment programming and marketing partnerships within the National Historic District in Fort Worth.

Last week, that partnership was taken a step further, as PBR Commissioner Sean Gleason announced that the 2022 PBR World Finals will come to Dickies Arena in Fort Worth next May.

Read on to learn more about the new home of the PBR World Finals, and head to FortWorth.com and DickiesArena.com for even more information as you gear up for 2022.

12: Fort Worth is the 12th-largest city in the United States, known for Texas hospitality and a dozen remarkable districts full of culture and fun.

9.4 million: Fort Worth is part of the No. 1 tourist destination in Texas, welcoming 9.4 million visitors annually.

2: The Old West comes to life before your eyes during the world's only twice-daily cattle drive. Real Texas cowhands drive a herd of Texas longhorns down East Exchange Avenue in the Stockyards National Historic District every day at 11:30 a.m. and 4 p.m., and every detail of the cattle drive is authentic and historically accurate.

17: The herd consists of 17 Texas longhorns, each steer representing one decade from Fort Worth's colorful past, and a diverse team of drovers clad in authentic 19th century clothing.

1908: The historic Fort Worth Cowtown Coliseum was built and has been operational since 1907. It is home to the world’s first indoor rodeo and the only year-round rodeo held every Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m.

75: In the last year alone, the Fort Worth Sports Commission secured 75 sporting events which will draw 500,000 visitors to the area.

35: The heart of downtown Fort Worth is Sundance Square, a 35-square-block shopping and entertainment district where charming, beautifully restored buildings stand alongside glittering skyscrapers. Here, you’ll find locals, downtown residents and visitors among a multitude of restaurants, shops, galleries and performance venues.

48: At the Sid Richardson Museum, the new exhibition, Picturing the American West, features 48 works on display. It is arranged around four major themes depicting the characters, landscapes, and stories of the American West, rooted in a pioneering spirit of adventure and opportunity.

1963: On November 22, 1963, President John F. Kennedy gave an impromptu speech to thousands of spectators on the front steps of the historic Hotel Texas, now the Hilton Fort Worth, followed by a formal presentation at the Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce breakfast. The JFK Tribute in Fort Worth’s General Worth Square marks the place and occasion of the President's historic visit.

9,300: Dickies Arena has a capacity of 9,300 for rodeo events. That goes up to 14,000 for concerts, 13,300 for basketball games, and 12,200 for family shows and hockey games.

108: The north façade of Dickies Arena features a triptych measuring 10 feet in height by 108 feet long portraying the roots and icons of Texas culture. Created by Evergreene Architectural Arts, America’s largest and most respected specialty contractor for architectural arts, the mural was fabricated in Italy using over 600,000 colored glass tiles. It depicts scenes telling the story of Texas, highlighting early settlers and cowhands, set amidst Texas flora, fauna, and more.

2017: Construction work for Dickies Arena broke ground on Feb. 6, 2017, with a ceremonial “Let the Dirt Fly” groundbreaking ceremony held in April 2017.

16: After 16 years, the PBR’s Unleash The Beast returned to Fort Worth in August of 2020 with the PBR WinStar World Casino and Resort Invitational. Jose Vitor Leme won his league-best sixth event en route to winning the 2020 PBR World Championship, while Joao Ricardo Vieira and Cooper Davis tied for the 15/15 Bucking Battle victory.

6: For Vieira, the 15/15 win was the sixth of his career, setting a new PBR record when he rode Marquis Metal Works Coriolis Effect for 89.5 points.

94.75: The premier series returned to Fort Worth and the Cowtown Coliseum again in February, and Leme was again victorious, riding Woopaa for 94.75 points to clinch the event win.

95.25: At the PBR Tractor Supply Co. Iron Cowboy, presented by Ariat, in Dickies Arena this past weekend, Paulo Ferreira Lima rode Woopaa for 95.25 points in Round 5 to take the win.

2,051: The win in Fort Worth was Lima’s first on the premier series in 2,051 days, when he won the Monster Energy Buck Off at the Garden in New York City in January of 2016.
