SIOUX CITY, Iowa – The action inside the Tyson Events Center during the Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour (PWVT) Sioux City Classic- presented locally by Bomgaars and Wilson Trailer on Friday night was intense as the talented animal athletes of the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) dominated, allowing only four of the 45 bull riders to record qualified rides.

As the first night of the two-day weekend ended, Manoelito De Souza Junior (Itamira, Brazil) rode his way to a Round 1 win as one of the four men to earn a score.

The 25-year-old Brazilian cowboy recorded the highest score of the round when he fired out of the chutes aboard Schott in the Dark (Julio Moreno/ Schott Bucking Bulls) for 87.5 points.

Souza earned seven world points for the round win and will enter Saturday night’s Round 2 atop the event leaderboard.

The three other successful cowboys that bested their bovine matchups tied for a second-place finish in Round 1 with triplicate 87-point ride scores.

Brazil’s Adriano Salgado (Batatais, Brazil) was the first man to ride on Friday night as he launched from the chutes clinging to Hannibal (Cannon Cattle Co).

Not long after Salgado’s successful pairing, 18-year-old rookie Bob Mitchell (Steelville, Missouri) had the Iowa crowd roaring as he bested The Dentist (Slinging’ BB’s) at his second career PWVT event.

As the last man in the trio, Lucas Fideles Souza (Barnstable, Massachusetts) made the 8 against Midnight Mystery (CBT 2/ Halpain Bucking Bulls).

All three riders collected three world points for their efforts.

The debut Sioux City weekend is also a stop on the Million Dollar Bull Team Challenge. CBT 2/ Halpain Bucking Bulls took home first place in Round 1, scoring 275.96 over three outs. Moreno/ Schott Bucking Bulls was second with 275.27 points while Rafter JML Cattle #2 claimed third with 273.75 points.
