PBR returns to Sioux Falls for Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour Finals

Tickets on sale now for Nov. 6-7 event at Denny Sanford PREMIER Center.

By Mandi McCary

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – When the premier expansion tour of the PBR (Professional Bull Riders), the Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour (PWVT), culminates its 2020 season with the PWVT Finals in Sioux Falls, South Dakota Nov. 6-7, a lot will be at stake on the dirt at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center.

As the world’s best bull riders chase the event’s $80,000 purse and $35,000 bonus to the PWVT Champion, four wild card invites for the PBR World Finals will be up for grabs in Sioux Falls as the prize every cowboy’s sights are set on.

South Dakota fans will get to experience a field of 45 top bull riders taking on some of the country’s rankest bulls in an attempt to win the prestigious season-ending event while also vying to qualify for the PBR World Finals.

The four wild card invites on the line for World Finals are the top two-ranked riders from the overall end-of-season Velocity Tour standings and the top two finishers in the PWVT Finals event standings, who have not already qualified for World Finals. Each of these four will punch their ticket to compete the following week, Nov. 12-15, at the historic 2020 PBR World Finals: Unleash The Beast, being held for the first time ever at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Last year, world No. 1 Jose Vitor Leme’s 2019 PWVT Finals victory further extended his world standings lead headed into the World Finals as he faced off with eventual 2019 winner Jess Lockwood. This year the Brazilian phenom’s lead is currently 545.09 points so the roles will be reversed as the top riders contend to chip away at Leme’s lead.

Other top riders in the PBR premier series, besides Leme and two-time PBR World Champion Lockwood, who competed in the 2019 PWVT Finals included two-time PBR World Champion J.B. Mauney, South Dakota’s own Matt Triplett, veteran Cody Nance, young guns Ezekiel Mitchell and Mason Taylor, Derek Kolbaba, Keyshawn Whitehorse and many more.

The 2020 PBR PWVT Finals were previously scheduled to be held at the South Point Arena in Las Vegas on Oct. 31 - Nov. 1 but were relocated to Sioux Falls due to COVID-19 restrictions in the state of Nevada.

COVID-19 arena safety measures will be in full effect over the course of the weekend in order to responsibly welcome fans to experience one of the season’s top events. Following the onset of COVID-19 in the U.S. resulting in the shutdown of live sporting events beginning in mid-March, PBR was the first sport to host fans in indoor arenas, safely and without incident, with additional safety protocols instituted, beginning in Sioux Falls at Denny Sanford PREMIER Center on July 10-12.

PBR along with ASM Global and Denny Sanford PREMIER Center are following local and state health guidelines to create a safe and responsible environment for fans in attendance. The fan safety protocols for the event include:

  • Tickets are available at a reduced capacity for each PBR event at the arena for increased social responsibility.
  • POD Seating has been created to execute a safer seating environment for all fans.
  • Complimentary face coverings will be offered to fans entering the arena.
  • Mobile ticketing will replace traditional printed tickets.
  • Increased reliance on cashless and contactless concessions.
  • Social responsibility guidelines will be posted at restroom, concession and concourse areas.
  • PBR staff and athletes will undergo regular medical testing and screening prior to arrival to the venue.

The bull action riding for the 2020 PWVT Finals presented by First PREMIER Bank and PREMIER Bankcard, begins at 7:30 p.m. on both Friday, Nov. 6 and Saturday, Nov. 7. Tickets for the two-day event are now on sale and range in price from $15 to $125 by calling PBR Direct at (800) 732-1727 or visiting Ticketmaster.com, the KELOLAND Box Office at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center or by visiting pbr.com.

A PBR Elite Experience is also available for avid bull riding fans who want an exclusive VIP experience while enjoying the world’s top bull riding circuit. These tickets offer premium seats, a question and answer presentation with some of the top bull riders and stock contractors in the world, a special photo opportunity after the event on the Can-Am Cage, and souvenir credential and lanyard.

In addition, fans can purchase an exclusive behind the scenes experience with the animal athletes of the PBR by signing up for the Bull Housing tour on Saturday morning Nov. 7. This limited capacity experience offers a question and answer presentation with some of the top stock contractors who care for and raise the best bucking bulls in the world as well as a close up meet and greet with the bovines themselves and a souvenir credential and lanyard.

The PBR Elite Experience and Bull Housing Tour are available for $50 each and can both be purchased by contacting the PBR Customer Service Department at 800-732-1727 or by visiting Ticketmaster.com. Social distancing will be practiced at all times throughout both experiences.
