MEMPHIS — In front of a raucous crowd inside FedExForum in Memphis, Brazilian Fabiano Vieira (Perola, Brazil) took advantage of an Unleash The Beast (UTB) weekend break to win the 2020 Memphis Invitational.
Vieira, waiting in the wings until late in Round 1, conquered Whipper Snapper (Big Rafter Rodeo) for 85 points in section five, finishing in fifth place in the round.
Needing to climb four spots in the 10-man championship round, Vieira drew the formidable Joker (Rickey West Bucking Bulls). Exploding out of the chutes, Vieira matched Joker move for move and was marked 88.5 points.
With an aggregate of 173.5 over his two outs, Vieira won his first PWVT event of the 2020 season. He earned 38 world points, and $6,550. Vieira is now the No. 10 bull rider in the world.
The senior rider in the locker room, Wallace Vieira de Oliveira (Goiania, Brazil), rode his way to a second-place finish in the city of the blues.
The Brazilian took care of Eye of the Storm (McCoy Ranches) during Round 1 for 86 points, finishing third in the round.
In the championship round, Oliveira tallied an 86.5-point score on Sky Jack (Martinez Bucking Bulls), joining Vieira as the only riders to go a perfect 2-for-2.
The finish added 27 world points to de Oliveira’s chase for a world title, and put $5,450 in his bank account. He is now sitting in the No. 41 spot in the world rankings.
PBR newcomer Keith Hall (Blakely, Georgia) was able to record his career-best PWVT finish as he ended the night tied for third place.
His Round 1 mastering of Kitty Hawk (D&H Cattle Co/Bob & Jeri Adams) for 87-points tied for first place in the round.
Hall was given a quick exit in the championship round with a 1.95-second trip on Perfecto (Cord McCoy/Bruce Wold).
Third place earned Hall $2,800 and 13.5 world points.
Another UTB regular, Marco Eguchi (Poa, Brazil), was also in the Top 5 on the night, finishing in a tie for third. His Round 1 ride aboard Times Up (Big Rafter Rodeo), marked 87 points, was good enough for a tie for first in the round.
Eguchi was unable to return for the championship round after he was injured dismounting Times Up in Round 1. The Brazilian cowboy earned $2,800 and 13.5 world points, and he is now No. 16 in the world.
Veteran Rubens Barbosa (Iaciara, Brazil) rounded out the Top 5 on the night, riding Con-Air (Martinez Bucking Bulls) in Round 1 for 85.5 points.
Barbosa earned $1,140 at the end of the night and six world points.
Fans can experience every out of the 2020 Memphis Invitational on Sunday, February 16 at 8 a.m. ET via the RidePass app or on RidePass.com.
The PWVT returns to action in one week with a double dip of action in Hampton, Virginia, and Wooster, Massachusetts, on February 22.
