BALTIMORE – As the only rider to go a perfect 3-for-3 inside Royal Farms Arena, Fabiano Vieira (Perola, Brazil) dominated the first-ever PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour event in Baltimore, victorious at the Baltimore Invitational.
One of 14 riders to record a score on the opening night of competition, the veteran Brazilian was quick to put points on the board in Round 1, covering Blue Heat (3J Ranch) for 82.5 points.
He then climbed the leaderboard in Round 2 when he recorded his second 8-second effort of the Charm City event, covering Lil Bit Crazy (Harrison/Swearingen/Berger) for 84 points.
Vieira’s perfect performance was then punctuated with an 84.5-point ride aboard Big John (CBT 2/Sho-Me Rodeo) in the championship round.
For his efforts, Vieira collected a check for $5,500 in addition to 35 world points, surging to No. 19 in the world standings. He now trails No. 1 Kaique Pacheco (Itatiba, Brazil) by 183.5 world points.
Vieira also earned a berth to the elite Unleash The Beast. He will make his return to the premier series in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, on Jan. 31-Feb. 1 inside Chesapeake Energy Arena.
Devon Weaver (Harrisburg, Pennsylvania) was second, netting $4,400 and 28.5 world points.
The Pennsylvania man began the event with great momentum, topping Round 1 with an 87-point ride on Roll of the Dice (Barrett Willis Bucking Stock). After covering his second round draw, Humberto (Harrison/Swearingen/Berger), for 84.5 points, Weaver fell just short of the event win when he was bested by Suspicious Minds (Harrison/Swearingen/Berger) in 4.19 seconds in the championship round.
Weaver is now ranked No. 33 in the world.
Third was Brazilian Carlos Gomes Junior.
Following an 85-point ride on Shishkabob (CBT 2) in Round 1, Gomes slid down the leaderboard when he bucked off Simple Man (UTC/Sellers Bucking Bulls) in a heartbreaking 6.14 seconds in Round 2.
Determined to finish inside the Top 5, Gomes rebounded with an 86-point, championship round-winning ride aboard Found Jesus (CBT 2).
Compliments of his 2-for-3 showing at the Baltimore Invitational, he earned $2,900 and 18 world points, now No. 39 in the world.
Kyle Jones (Troy, Missouri) was propelled to a fourth-place finish after recording matching 85-point rides in the opening two rounds of action. He first covered Bomber (Team Alaska), and then made the 8 atop 4 Bears (Harrison/Swearingen/Berger).
As a result, Jones earned a $2,000 payday, along with 11 world points.
Lucas Phipps (Winona, Missouri) and Tyler Werner (Houston, Texas) tied for fifth after both went 2-for-3.
Phipps delivered back-to-back qualified rides to start the event, riding Prospector (Flip ‘em Buck’en Bulls/Knapp) for 84.5 points in Round 1 and Roll of the Dice for 85 points in Round 2.
He earned $1,100 and 6.5 world points.
Werner, after topping the leaderboard in Round 2 with an 86-point ride on Ram It (TCB Ranch/K-C Bucking Bulls), reached the 8 on How Bout It (UTC/Sellers Bucking Bulls) in the championship round, marked 83.5 points.
The Texan left Royal Farms Arena with $1,900 and 13.5 world points.
In the bull pen, Freakin Wicked (Team Alaska) and Homer (D4 Cattle Co./Sho-Me Rodeo) tied for the high-marked bull of the event, each scoring 44 points. The duo bucked off Keith Hall (Blakely, Georgia) in 5.98 seconds in Round 1, and Jesse Tillman (Olathe, Kansas) in 5.36 seconds in Round 2, respectively.
The PBR Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour’s Baltimore Invitational was also a stop on the 2020 Million Dollar Bull Team Challenge.
On Friday night, GT Bucking Bulls won the performance with 273.59 points courtesy of the trips notched by Badger, Dos Equis and Crossover. On Saturday, Team Alaska emerged victorious with 273.67 points after Bomber, Freakin Wicked and Dang It dazzled the crowd.
The Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour next travels to both Spokane, Washington, and Lexington, Kentucky, on Saturday, January 25. Action gets underway in Washington at 7:00 p.m. PST, and in Kentucky at 7:00 p.m. EST.
