The Morning Line - 2019 World Finals Round 4

Round 4 features the top 20 ABBI Classic bulls from Round 1 making their second out.

By Slade Long

Tonight’s round features the top 20 ABBI Classic bulls from Round 1 making their second out. The ABBI Classic season champion and finals champion will be determined here. The remaining bulls are bulls who fit the pen but haven’t had an out at the Finals yet.

Alan de Souza on 599 Bullseye:

Souza has ridden all of his bulls so far, and that’s good for him and Jess Lockwood both. He’ll be tested here. This bull is rideable, but he can open up his spin and start moving forward as the ride goes on. Souza will have to finish strong to get a qualified ride here, and very few guys have been able to finish strong over the first three rounds.

Daylon Swearingen on 534 Too Dirty:

Dalton Kasel was 88.5 points in the first round on this bull. Swearingen is the ultimate home run hitter in this field of riders, and he’s only managed to beat out a single so far. He’s likely to show up big before the week is over.

Chase Outlaw on 410 Catch My Drift:

This Canadian bull can go either way, but he’s a pretty good fit for Outlaw regardless. Jess Lockwood was 89 on him in Calgary over the summer, and Jose Vitor Leme rode him in Billings this spring. Outlaw is coming off a big ride last night, and is probably coming in feeling pretty good tonight.

Cooper Davis on 138 M.A.G.A.

Davis has drawn three straight tough bulls, but he has a good one here. M.A.G.A. has been ridden 8 times in 11 UTB outs this season, and he’s delivered paychecks to a lot of riders. Even though Davis is 0-3 here he’s a huge favorite tonight.

Jose Vitor Leme on 125 Bootdaddy.com:

Bootdaddy.com is 24-2 in his career, but the two rides came in the last half of this season. This bull can test anyone. He has forward movement, sometimes a lot of it. Leme is certainly capable of riding him, because he’s capable of riding anything. Lockwood has a tough bull in this round too, and the best-case scenario for Leme is that he rides and Lockwood bucks off. These two matchups have huge world title implications tonight.

Rubens Barbosa on 43C- Chiseled:

Eduardo Aparecido won the opening round on this bull with 91.25 points. Most of the riders here were probably hoping for Chiseled in this round, and Barbosa, who is coming off a great ride last night, won that lottery. Chiseled is still leading the ABBI Classic race for the season.

Lucas Divino on 561C Hocus Pocus:

Hocus Pocus has the edge in this matchup, but this is an important out for him. This bull won the ABBI Classic title last year as a 3-year-old. No bull has ever won it twice. He’s in sixth place in the Classic standings, all the bulls ahead of him are in play tonight, and he has a shot at being the first back-to-back ABBI Classic champ.

Jess Lockwood on 162 The Right Stuff:

This will be a test for Lockwood, and a pivotal round. This is the hardest bull he’s faced yet at the Finals. The Right Stuff is unridden for good reason. He jumps way up in the front, but he doesn’t break over very much. It’s very easy for a rider to get stuck sitting up or back with no chance to get back to the front to meet the next jump. If anyone can meet this challenge, it’s Lockwood. He’s the most fundamentally sound rider going right now, and maybe since Justin McBride retired. Since coming back from injury earlier this season he’s made very few mistakes.

Eduardo Aparecido on 527 Preacher’s Kid:

Preacher’s Kid won the first Classic round Wednesday night. He’s unridden in 13 outs. He’s one of the hardest bulls in this round for anyone to match up with, but there may not be a tougher matchup for him than Aparecido. This is an even match and should be good watching.

Cody Teel on 37Z Udder Lover:

Teel is in a good place right now. He’s had good bulls here and has not let any of them shake him. He’s riding as well as he has all year, and this is a great time for that to happen. Udder Lover is one of the best bulls he could have drawn in this round, and Teel should get a fourth straight qualified ride here.
