PUEBLO, Colo. – PBR (Professional Bull Riders) today announced the launch of The Mason Lowe Scholarship, in memory of Mason Lowe, a PBR athlete who passed away following a bull riding accident in January, 2019.
PBR also announced the Mason Lowe Award for the high-marked ride of the Unleash The Beast regular season. In the event of a tie, the top-scoring rider’s next highest ride score will determine the winner, who will be presented at World Finals a plaque and cross necklace made from the leather of the boots Lowe was wearing the night of his final ride.
The Mason Lowe Scholarship will award qualified students with undergraduate scholarships ranging from $500 to $5,000.
The scholarship program is open to applicants who are high school seniors or graduates as well as current college undergraduates planning to enroll for the entire upcoming academic year in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two- or four-year college, university or vocational–technical institution with plans to participate in extracurricular programs in rodeo/western sports and/or agriculture.
The scholarship program will consider criteria including academic performance, demonstrated leadership, work experience, educational and career goals, and participation in school and community activities. Unusual personal circumstances will also be considered.
Beginning today, students may apply for the Mason Lowe Memorial Scholarship, and anyone can donate to the scholarship, by visiting (learnmore.scholarsapply.org/mlmsp).
The deadline for submitting scholarship applications is December 4, 2019 at 3:00 pm CT.
