PUEBLO, Colo. – Home cooking did Cody Teel and Ezekiel Mitchell some good this past weekend.

The Texas natives picked up victories on Friday and Saturday at the two Touring Pro Division events in Rocksprings, Texas.

Teel – the No. 5 ranked bull rider in the world standings – was the only man to cover both of his bulls Saturday night at the Edwards County Fairgrounds.

The 27-year-old began his evening with 86.5 points on Silent Night before his 89.5-point ride on Sosa’s Alley Cat in the championship round pushed him past Dalton Kasel and Taylor Toves for the win.

Kasel had previously won Round 1 with 89.5 points on Chico Stick, but he was unable to reach the 8 seconds on Good Night Robicheaux in the championship round. He left Rocksprings with 30 points toward the world standings to move up to No. 83. Kasel has posted four consecutive Top-5 finishes.

Meanwhile, Toves bucked off Capone in the championship round following his 89-point ride on Spectacula in Round 1. Toves still picked up 20 world points to maintain his No. 29 world ranking.

Teel picked up 60 world points to cut Jose Vitor Leme’s world lead to 1,345.73 points.

The 2012 PRCA champion bull rider bookended the month of June with TPD victories – Odessa on June 8 and Rocksprings on June 29.

Meanwhile, Leme had a mixed bag of success this weekend in Rocksprings.

Leme went 1-for-3 in the two TPD events in Rocksprings, but the world No. 1 did pick up 30 world points courtesy of a second-place finish Friday night. He now leads No. 2 Jess Lockwood by 359.16 points.

The 22-year-old came back into the championship round on time as only one rider (Arliss Hostetler 83 points on Twisted Off) picked up a score in Round 1. Leme then rode Oz for 86.5 points on his final attempt of the evening.

However, that was not enough to surpass Mitchell.

Mitchell also came back into the championship on time, but he covered Milky Chance for 87.5 points to earn his first victory at any level of competition since he won the season-opening Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour event in Ontario, California, on Nov. 17.

“I mean it was pretty cool,” Mitchell said. “I’ve been going to that event since 2017 and never had any big success there. So to finally get something done there in the home state was a good feeling, but I am still itching for that first UTB win.”

Mitchell moves up to No. 17 in the world standings after he earned 60 points toward the world standings.

With Cody Jesus being hindered by a groin injury lately, and fellow rookie Cannon Cravens out for months because of a broken leg, the door is open for Mitchell and other rookies to attempt to climb the Rookie of the Year ladder.

The Rookie of the Year will be crowned at the 2019 PBR World Finals on Nov. 6-10 inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

“I’m just looking to carry the momentum,” Mitchell said.
