PUEBLO, Colo. – 2012 PRCA champion Cody Teel will be channeling his inner rodeo skills as he plans on hitting the summer PBR trail every weekend possible between now and Last Cowboy Standing at Cheyenne Frontier Days on July 22-23.

Teel began his summer run with a victory on Saturday night at the Caveman Invitational Touring Pro Division event in Odessa, Texas.

The No. 5 ranked bull rider in the world standings went 2-for-2, capping his victory with 89.5 points on Cadillac Jack in the championship round, to pick up 60 points toward the world standings.

Teel now trails world leader Jose Vitor Leme by 1,365.83 points.

“Felt good,” Teel said. “Trying to make up those points and add them up. I’ll be a TPD or Velocity every weekend.”

Teel (2-for-2, 174 points, 60 world points) began Saturday with 84.5 points on Gambler.

It was an early birthday gift for Teel, who turned 27 years old on Sunday and was celebrating with some Mexican food and cookie cake.

Happy Birthday to my Best Friend and the best Dad in the whole world ❤️🌎🥰🥳👨‍👩‍👧 @codylteel

“Kaitlin (Cody’s wife) took me on a little one night stay vacay to Fredericksburg (Texas) Thursday/Friday,” Teel said. “Pretty fun deal.”

Winning is also always fun too.

Teel has now earned points (1,740) toward the world standings in eight straight weeks in which he has competed since March 23. Teel was ranked No. 32 in the world standings at the start of this streak.

The Kountze, Texas, bull rider was one of only two riders to cover both of their bulls in Odessa.

Taylor Toves (2-for-2, 152 points, 30 world points) finished 2-for-2 by riding Toy Tiger for 87 points – the Round 1 winner – and Mr. Mitchell for 65 points. Toves moved up two spots in the world standings to No. 27.

No. 7 Luciano de Castro helped his case in the world title race by riding Tanner Time for 86 points and a third-place finish. He picked 20 points toward the world standings. Crossover bucked Castro off in 6.16 seconds in the championship round.

Meanwhile, Alex Cardozo (1-for-2, 85.5 points, 15 world points), Cody Jones (1-for-2, 85 points, 7.5 world points) and Leonardo Lima (1-for-2, 85 points, 7.5 world points) rounded out the Top 5.

Teel and Castro are two of seven Top-10 riders slated to compete in next weekend’s Touring Pro Division Major event in Bismarck, North Dakota.

Fans can watch the event exclusively on RidePass.

The Dakota Community Bank and Trust TPD event will offer Velocity Tour level points and will feature the majority of the Top 35 riders in the world. Twenty-one of the Top 35 are expected to ride at the Bismarck Event Center.

Teel and Castro will also be competing on different teams during Chad Berger’s $125,000 Team Challenge, presented by Marquis Metal Works, which is set to take place following the TPD long round each night.
