No surgery for Gorham, but popular bullfighter out multiple weeks

Matador Jerky Bullfighter Shorty Gorham will remain out of competition for a few weeks because of a dislocated left foot, but Gorham will not need to undergo surgery.

PUEBLO, Colo. – Matador Jerky Bullfighter Shorty Gorham received some good news on Monday afternoon after getting X-rays and a CT scan done in Dallas on his dislocated left foot.

Upon further review, Gorham will not need to undergo surgery and he will be able to focus on letting his foot heal naturally.

Gorham will wear a protective boot for three weeks before having a follow-up appointment.

“I was blessed with good news today,” Gorham wrote on his professional Facebook Fan Page. “It was described to me as being a very uncommon dislocation, which almost always needs surgery. After X-rays and a CT scan this morning, I got the good news. No surgery.”

Gorham added that he also did not sustain any broken bones, which is a rarity based on the injury he sustained.

The 40-year-old, in follow-up with PBR.com, said he is still likely going to miss the 2018 PBR World Finals on Nov. 7-11 in Las Vegas at T-Mobile Arena, but he is holding out hope that his foot will heal quickly.

“It depends on what doc says in three weeks, but it doesn’t sound like it,” Gorham said.

The injury itself was a fluke deal in many ways.

The Matador Jerky Bullfighter felt a jolt of pain when he went to leap onto the back of the bucking chutes to avoid a charging Big Benny after the bull had bucked off J.B. Mauney last weekend during Round 1 of the WinStar World Casino & Resort Invitational in Austin, Texas.

Gorham said on Tuesday he was improving slowly.

“It’s still pretty sore, but it’s getting less and less sore,” he said.

Cody Webster will replace Gorham in the arena and Jesse Byrne will replace Gorham on CBS telecasts during his absence.
