Australian Wilson wins first night of bull riding at NHSFR

Chris Wilson of New South Wales, Australia, used an 83-point ride to clinch victory and kick off bull riding at the 2018 National High School Finals Rodeo.

ROCK SPRINGS, Wyo. – Australian Chris Wilson won the first night of bull riding at the 2018 National High School Finals Rodeo on Sunday evening in Rock Springs, Wyoming.

The 16-year-old from New South Wales, Australia, used an 83-point ride for the victory.

“It was pretty good,” Wilson told Janie Johnson on RidePass. “He was out and around and into my hand. He was pretty quick. He was nice to get on.”

According to NHSFR officials, Wilson expressed his appreciation for his mom in helping him make the journey to the United States for this week’s competition.

“It’s been a great experience,” Wilson said.

Wilson posted the highest score among seven qualified rides.

Rounding out the Top 5 of the first performance was Mason Ward (77 points), T.J. Schmidt (77 points), Cash Bronson (75 points) and Andrew Rodriguez (74 points).

Fans can watch the future stars of rodeo every day on RidePass beginning at 10:45 a.m. ET and 8:30 p.m. ET until the conclusion of the event on July 21.
