TUCSON, Ariz. – Current No. 1 bull rider on the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Built Ford Tough Series (BFTS) J.B. Mauney captured his fourth win of the 2015 season during the Cooper Tires Take the Money and Ride, presented by Jack Daniel’s, event at the Tucson Convention Center on Saturday night.
Mauney covered Mr. Bull (Julio Moreno Bucking Bulls) for 90 points in the Built Ford Tough Championship Round to clinch the victory and earn a total of 580 points toward the PBR world standings.
“I knew that bull was really good, I knew he was going to buck- you can be right at 90 points on him [if you ride him],” Mauney said. “I knew if I did my job I could probably win the short round, so I went with him.”
Top PBR rookie Kaique Pacheco was also perfect on the weekend (3-for-3) and placed second in the event with 320 world points, which moved him up to No. 2 in the world standings. He also placed second to Mauney in the event average with a score of 257 points.
Pacheco’s 90-point effort atop Compact (Talbert Bucking Bulls) in the championship round tied Mauney for the highest score of the event.
Mauney leads Pacheco by 1,250 points in the world standings.
2004 PBR World Champion Mike Lee finished third in the event with 220 world points.
Stormy Wing was unable to cover his championship-round bull, but successfully placed in the Top 5 in both Round 1 and Round 2 to earn himself a fourth-place finish for the weekend and 160 world points.
Ryan Dirteater rounded out the Top 5 on the event for 155 points towards the world standings.
With a bull score of 46 out of 50 points, Roy (Julio Moreno/3L Bucking Bulls/White Diamond Ranch) earned the Salem Nationalease High-marked Bull award in Tucson after tossing Wing in 3.05 seconds during the championship round.
CBS Television Network will broadcast the championship round action Sunday, Oct. 4 beginning at 3 p.m. ET. Round 2 and the championship round will also air on CBS Sports Network Sunday at 8 p.m. ET.
Tucson was the 26th stop on the 2015 PBR Built Ford Tough Series. The season will culminate with the PBR Built Ford Tough World Finals in Las Vegas on Oct. 21-25 at the Thomas and Mack Center when the 2015 PBR World Champion, the bull rider who earns the most points during the 2015 season, will receive the coveted World Championship belt buckle and a $1 million bonus.
