Newell finds success in Montana

PBR Touring Pro Division stops in North Carolina and Texas this weekend.

PUEBLO, Colo. – Thad Newell (Muskogee, Oklahoma) put up a total score of 178.5 to finish in first place at The Bull Thing PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Touring Pro Division (TPD) event this past weekend in Eureka, Montana.

Newell tallied 88 points in Round 1 before putting up an event-high 90.5 points in the championship round. He earned 60 points toward the PBR World Standings along with $10,961.56 as he won his first TPD victory of the year. 

Lachlan Richardson (Gresford, Australia) continued his hot streak as he landed in second place with 171 points for a $7,136.05 payout. Richardson earned 30 world points from an 85.5-point ride in both Round 1 and the championship round.

Derek Kolbaba (Walla Walla, Washington) took third off an 89-point Round 1 ride as he picked up $4,855.46 and 20 world points.

Fourth and fifth places went to Chase Robbins (Marsing, Idaho), Matt Werries (Jacksonville, Illinois) and Devon Mitchell (Shepherd, Montana). Robbins was fourth with 87.5 points in Round 1 as he earned $2,942.70 and 15 world points. Werries and Mitchell finished in a tie for fifth as each had 86.5 points in Round 1. The pair each earned $1,250.65 and 7.5 world points apiece.

The 17th Annual Jerome Davis PBR Invitational will take place in Archdale, North Carolina, on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 4 and 5 at 8 p.m., with Josh Faircloth (Randleman, North Carolina), Toby Stover (Mill Hall, Pennsylvania) and Sean Willingham (Summerville, Georgia) scheduled to ride.

On Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 4 and 5 at 7 p.m., the Central Texas State Fair in Belton, Texas, will feature Cody Ford (Stanfield, Oregon), Neil Holmes (Houston, Texas) as well as Cody Tyler White (Tala, Oklahoma).
