Harris wins in Kansas City

J.W Harris went 3-for-3 to win the Caterpillar Classic in Kansas City, Missouri.

By PBR

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The 2014 Professional Bull Riders (PBR) Rookie of the Year, J.W. Harris, earned the first Built Ford Tough Series (BFTS) victory of his PBR career Sunday, winning the Caterpillar Classic at the Sprint Center in Kansas City. Harris was the only rider to go 3-for-3 on the weekend.

Harris covered Crystal Can Do (D&H Cattle Co.) for 88.5 points in the Built Ford Tough Championship Round to finish the event with a total ride score of 261.5 points, earning 400 event points for placing first in the event aggregate and an overall total of 525 event points toward the PBR world standings for his weekend performance.

“I really wanted to ride in the championship round for personal satisfaction,†Harris said. “It was good to get this one and I feel like a monkey is off my back. I spent last weekend at a rodeo in San Antonio and felt I needed to just get back to why I started bull riding in the first place, to just have fun.â€

Nathan Schaper placed second in the event after riding D&H Cattle Co.’s Long John for 89 points in the championship round. It’s the first time Long John has been ridden since Harris covered him in September 2014 in Springfield, Missouri. The ride earned Schaper the championship round win and 100 event points. He finished the event with a total of 340 event points.

Long John had only been ridden three times previously in his career. Schaper’s 89 points are the most any rider has recorded on the potential world championship bull contender.

Coming in third place was Eduardo Aparecido, who picked up 182.5 event points for his finish. Rounding out the Top 5 were Reese Cates in fourth place for 167.5 event points and Renato Nunes in fifth place for 130 event points.

With a bull score of 46.25 out of 50 points, Stone Sober (D&H Cattle Co./Buck Cattle Co.) won the  Salem Nationalease High-marked Bull award in Kansas City.

On Saturday night, Brutus (D&H Cattle Co./Buck/Adams) captured the second ABBI Classic event title of the season with a bull score of 44 points as Kaique Pacheco covered him for a ride score of 89.75 points. It was the highest ride score of the weekend.

The ABBI (American Bucking Bull Incorporated) Classic competitions are for the up-and-coming bulls of the sport. The ABBI conducts development programs and holds events showcasing the world's finest bucking bull stock at select BFTS and Touring Pro Division events.

Next on the 2015 BFTS is the Choctaw Casino Resort Iron Cowboy powered by Kawasaki Strong at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas on Feb. 28. The event will take place at 5:50 p.m. CT on Saturday, Feb. 28. The preliminary rounds will be televised on CBS Sports Network at 10 p.m. ET on Saturday.  The final rounds will be shown on CBS Television Network on Sunday, March 1 at 1 p.m. ET.

Fans can also watch every ride of the Built Ford Tough Series each weekend live online at PBR.com/live.

The BFTS is televised every week on CBS, CBS Sports Network – the home of the PBR - and networks around the world. BFTS telecasts are produced for the PBR under a multi-year agreement with David Neal Productions, a Los Angeles-based production company led by 34-time Emmy® Award winner and Peabody Award winner David Neal, who serves as executive producer.
