PUEBLO, Colo. – Bonner Bolton (Gardendale, Texas) impressed the crowd as he covered two bulls, including a 90.5-point ride, at the Professional Bull Riders (PBR) BlueDEF Velocity Tour (BDVT) event at the Yakima Valley SunDome in Yakima, Washington, on Feb. 14-15 to win the event and 80 points toward the PBR world standings. It was Bolton's second BDVT win this season.Â
With Bolton's 90-plus-point ride aboard Major Impact (Corey & Lange/Flying Diamond), Bolton topped Luis Blanco (Sao Paulo, Brazil) in the championship round to secure first place.
Bolton rode his way into the championship round by virtue of tying for second place during Round 1. Blanco got into the final round of the event after his stellar performance in Round 2, riding two bulls thanks to double entries. Per TPD rules, a bull rider may enter an event as many times as he chooses. Some riders have been known to enter an event two, or even three times.
While the riders managed nine scores throughout Round 2, the bulls got the better of their counterparts as Bolton and Blanco were the only riders to go the full 8 seconds in the championship round.
Blanco finished in second place and earned 50 world points. Rubens Barbosa (Icaiara, Brazil) finished in third place to earn 30 world points.
Derek Kolbaba (Walla Walla, Washington) and Thad Newell (Alva, Oklahoma) tied for fourth place coming away with 17.5 world points apiece.
With his second entry, Blanco finished sixth, earning 10 world points.
The BlueDEF Velocity Tour will continue this weekend in North Little Rock, Arkansas, at the Verizon Arena on Saturday, Feb. 21.Â
Winners of each 2015 BDVT will be guaranteed a minimum of one opportunity to compete at a Built Ford Tough Series regular season event in an attempt to win enough points to rank among the Top 35 in the world standings and earn a spot on the elite tour. With his win, Bolton has qualified for a chance to compete at the Iron Cowboy in Arlington, Texas, on Feb. 28.
On the Touring Pro Division schedule, the Rocky Mountain Challenge in Kalispell, Montana, at the Majestic Valley Arena took place on Feb. 13-14. Bryant Osborne (Rifle, Colorado) and Shay Marks (Sunnybrook, Alberta) tied for the victory with a total ride score of 172.0 points each. The pair were the only two to cover both of their bulls in the event.
Osborne earned the most money, taking home $3,861.35 for winning the championship round while Marks earned $3,646.83. Each rider tallied 45 points towards the PBR world standings.
Cawl Braithwaite (Bluffton, Alberta) was the third place finisher with 87.5 points as he earned 20 world points. In fourth place, Brady Oleson (Blackfoot, Idaho) with two entries and Dalton Rudman (Price, Utah) tied with ride scores each of 87 points. With the double entry, Oleson earned a total of 20 world points, while Rudman had 10.
On Feb. 20-21 the Touring Pro Division will be in Michigan and Tennessee. The PBR Great Lakes Invitational will be held in Saginaw, Michigan, at the Dow Event Center while the Johnson City TPD will be held at the Freedom Hall Civic Center in Johnson City, Tennessee.
