PUEBLO, Colo. (July 31, 2014) – Tulsa PBR fans show us your “Pinkâ€!
The second half of the Professional Bull Riders 2014 Built Ford Tough Series resumes, Friday, Aug. 15, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, when the Express Employment Professionals Classic presented by Jack Daniel’s kicks off its two-day event at the BOK Center. Â
To celebrate the sport’s return to Tulsa for the 10th consecutive year, the PBR has partnered with one of the city’s most respected organizations, Turn Tulsa Pink, a project of the 501(c)3 nonprofit organization Breast Impressions Foundation, to support its fight for cancer patients in northeastern Oklahoma. A weekend of fun and festivities is planned to mark this partnership.
On Thursday, Aug. 14, the PBR and TTP will host a parade through downtown Tulsa, featuring 2013 PBR World Champion J.B. Mauney and several of the Top 35 men who will be competing during the weekend, TTP’s many Pink Emergency and Pink Business Vehicles, survivors and fighters from the charities supported by Turn Tulsa Pink, and the best bull in PBR history, ESPN The Magazine’s “baddest body in sports,†Bushwacker. Â
The parade is planned from 11 to 11:30 a.m., and will end at the BOK Center for an official PBR press conference to publicize the partnership and start the weekend.Â
Saturday, Aug. 16, at the Express Employment Professionals Classic will be “Turn Tulsa Pink†night. In addition to the BOK Center glowing with pink lighting, PBR’s riders are being encouraged to compete in pink shirts and fans are being asked to wear pink to the event that evening. Turn Tulsa Pink will be selling pink T-shirts and other merchandise and conducting a silent auction at their booth during the event.Â
Other downtown Tulsa companies are also being encouraged to show their support by displaying pink lights in their buildings, as well.
The week also includes PBR riders making appearances and visiting patients at the St. Francis Children’s Hospital and Cancer Treatment Centers of America.
Turn Tulsa Pink Director Judi Grove is thrilled with the opportunity to work with the PBR again.Â
“Last year the support of the PBR allowed us to help so many more people going through their cancer journey, and we know this year will even be greater†Grove said. “We support seven local charities in Northeastern Oklahoma who provide services for anyone fighting any cancer. Turn Tulsa Pink is for ALL people affected by ANY form of cancer – men, women and children.â€
“It is an honor to once again affiliate our Tulsa event with Turn Tulsa Pink,†said Jim Haworth, Chairman and CEO of the PBR. “Judi and her team are amazing; their energy and passion unparalleled. Our Oklahoma family of fans is very lucky to have them on their side when the fight gets tough. Our bull riders respect that fight and admire that passion, as it matches that which is in their hearts for bull riding.â€
