Lee and Bushwacker to meet in Battle of Champions

2004 World Champion Mike Lee and two-time World Champion Bull Bushwacker to face off during a special bonus round at the Salinas Rodeo Touring Pro Division event on July 16 in Salinas, Calif.

By PBR

PUEBLO, Colo. – 2004 PBR World Champion Mike Lee will take on two-time PBR World Champion Bull Bushwacker at the Professional Bull Rider’s Touring Pro Division event in Salinas, California, on Wednesday, July 16. The TPD event, sponsored by Salinas Valley Ford, will host the El Primo Western Wear matchup during a special bonus round when Lee will face ESPN The Magazine’s “Baddest Body in Sports.â€

The matchup will be streamed exclusively online via PBR LIVE, beginning at 10 p.m. ET on July 16. Fans can visit PBR LIVE now to sign up for this exclusive broadcast.

Lee has faced the brawny bovine twice before in his career, during the PBR’s Built Ford Tough Series event in Kansas City, Missouri, in February 2013 and the BFTS event in Oklahoma City in February 2011. Bushwacker bucked the Texas native off during both attempts in 3.31and 2.49 seconds, respectively. Lee has been on the roll this summer, earning multiple Touring Pro Division victories and is coming off a 6-for-6 performance at the Lancaster TPD last weekend in Lancaster, California, to win the top three positions in the event.

“Oh man, I have been thinking about him, dreaming about him, and trying to figure out how to ride him,†Lee said. “To be a bull rider you want to ride the best.â€

For more information on Mike Lee’s reaction to taking on Bushwacker, visit PBR.com later today.

Going 9-for-9 thus far on the year, Bushwacker has been perfect during the 2014 season. He made quick work of reigning PBR World Champion J.B. Mauney during his first out of the season in Oklahoma City, and he has also dumped current No. 1 rider in the PBR world standings Guilherme Marchi and 2013 Rookie of the Year Joao Ricardo Vieira. Vieira missed out on a $1 million bonus after lasting just 2.2 seconds atop Bushwacker during the Dr Pepper Iron Cowboy V in Arlington, Texas, this March.

The California Rodeo Salinas will be one of the last two stops for Bushwacker during the Built Ford Tough Series’ summer break. The event will take place at the Salinas Sports Complex beginning at 7 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the Complex Box Office, by phone at 800-549-4989 or online at www.tickets.com.

After the Salinas challenge, Bushwacker will once again face his nemesis Mauney on July 31 at the Fiesta Stock Horse Show and Rodeo in Santa Barbara, California. This matchup, which is worth $25,000 to Mauney if he successfully makes the 8-second whistle, will also be streamed live on PBR LIVE at 10:30 p.m. ET.

Bushwacker will return to BFTS competition in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on Aug. 15 -16 for the Express Employment Professionals Classic.Â
