OKLAHOMA CITY ― Julio Moreno, one of the most successful stock contractors on the Professional Bull Riders Built Ford Tough Series (BFTS), announced at a press conference in Oklahoma City today that his most famous and successful bull, Bushwacker, will retire at the end of the PBR’s 2014 BFTS season.

The athlete which ESPN The Magazine dubbed the “baddest body in sports†in its 2013 Body Issue will make his last appearance at the 2014 PBR Built Ford Tough World Finals in Las Vegas, Oct. 22-26.

“Every athlete deserves to go out on top,†said Julio Moreno of Julio Moreno Bucking Bulls and owner of Bushwacker. “Bushwacker has nothing more to prove to me.  His has earned the honor of having his name forever engraved in the history books.â€

Bushwacker’s Farewell Tour begins in Oklahoma City this weekend on Saturday, Jan. 25, when he meets his nemesis and reigning PBR World Champion J.B. Mauney in the 15/15 Bucking Battle. The 15/15 Bucking Battle features the world’s Top 15 bull riders against the world’s Top 15 bulls in a special round of competition for additional prize money and a chance to earn double the points towards the world standings. As No. 1 in their respective ranks, Mauney and Bushwacker will meet for the 12^th time in their careers on Saturday night. This matchup will air on Sunday, Jan. 26, at noon ET on CBS Network Television.

A stop in Anaheim, Calif., follows Bushwacker’s Oklahoma appearance. The Farewell Tour will consist of 11 regular-season events and the PBR World Finals:

Bushwacker started his BFTS career in 2009 at the ABBI Wild Card event in Las Vegas during the Built Ford Tough World Finals where he became the reserve champion of the event and earned the opportunity to buck at World Finals.  As a 3-year-old it was the first year he could officially compete with human competitors on his back. Younger bulls train and compete with wooden boxes or “dummies.†At the Wild Card event he was ridden by Markus Mariluch for 88 points and days later at the World Finals by Thiago Paguioto for 89.75 points. 

Then he began his legendary streak.

From 2009-13 Bushwacker met only the best bull riders. He competed in the Built Ford Tough Championship Round at BFTS events and went on a four-year buckoff streak, breaking the previous record of 35 buckoffs, set by Silver Wings (D&H Cattle Company), at the PBR Oklahoma City event in 2013. The streak continued for an additional eight months and six events to reach 42 consecutive buckoffs. Bushwacker’s record streak came to an end on Aug. 17 when Mauney faced him for the ninth time in his career and rode the World Champion Bull for 95.25 points. Mauney has attempted Bushwacker two times since that fateful date and has been bucked off each time. Bushwacker’s overall record stands at 67-3.

He has been featured in the Wall Street Journal, USA Today, ESPN The Magazine, “CBS This Morning†and ESPN’s “E:60†to name a few. He has earned more than a half a million dollars in his career and has been named the PBR World Champion bull twice (2011, 2013).  He also has achieved the second-highest bull score ever recorded in PBR competition when he received 48.50 points out of 50 at the 2011 Built Ford Tough World Finals.  His BFTS career buckoff percentage is 96 percent and average buckoff time is 3.31 seconds.

“Bushwacker is the best the PBR has ever seen,†said Cody Lambert, PBR co-founder and director of livestock. “In fact he’s the best I’ve ever seen and I’ve been around for a long time.  We may never see one of his caliber again.â€
