Built Ford Tough Series returns to Duluth

The Duluth Invitational has been good to World Champions in the past and the Built Ford Tough Series returns to Duluth, Ga., this weekend for the first time since 2011.

DULUTH, Ga. ― After a two-year hiatus, the Gwinnett Center welcomes the Professional Bull Riders back to Duluth, Ga., on Jan. 18-19 with the Duluth Invitational, part of the 2014 Built Ford Tough Series (BFTS).

During this two-day event, bull riding action will begin at 7:50 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 18, and 2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 19. Tickets start at $15 and are on sale now at the Gwinnett Center Box Office and all other AXS outlets, including AXS.com. For more information visit www.pbr.com.

The Top 35 bull riders will provide more than two hours of non-stop action, featuring thrilling rides and heart-stopping wrecks that will bring fans to the edge of their seats as they watch the PBR’s world’s toughest cowboys risk it all against their 2,000-pound opponents.

In 2011, Georgia fans had the privilege of watching J.B. Mauney, the 2013 PBR World Champion, take the event title by going 3-for-4 on his bulls for the win.

Including Mauney, four other former PBR World Champions are scheduled to ride in Duluth this weekend: Silvano Alves (2012, 2011), Renato Nunes, (2010), 2010 Duluth event champion Guilherme Marchi (2008) and 2008 Duluth event champion Mike Lee (2004).

Georgia native Sean Willingham, fan favorites L.J. Jenkins and Douglas Duncan, and young guns Chase Outlaw and Jory Markiss are in the lineup, as well.

Gold Spur Ranch’s Road Candy awaits Mauney in Round 1 on Saturday. Road Candy has been attempted eight times on the BFTS over the last three years and has been ridden only once by Lostroh in Louisville, Ky., last season.

Willingham is scheduled to take on Doc Holliday (Covenant Livestock) on Saturday as the bull makes his first appearance on the BFTS, while current No. 1 rider Fabiano Vieira faces Jerome Davis’ Blues Man, who was ridden by Nunes last October in Fayetteville, N.C.

All Top 35 bull riders will ride one bull each in Rounds 1 and 2 on Saturday and Sunday. After Round 2 on Sunday afternoon, the riders’ individual two-round scores will be totaled and the Top 15 riders on two bulls will advance to the Built Ford Tough Championship Round for an additional ride and a chance at the $30,000 event title.

The former Duluth PBR event winners are:

2011: J.B. Mauney
2010: Guilherme Marchi
2008: Mike Lee

CBS Sports Network, the home of the PBR, will broadcast Round 1 live on Saturday, Jan. 18, at 8 p.m. ET and Round 2, as well as the championship round on Sunday, Jan. 19 at 8 p.m. ET.

Duluth is the third of 26 regular season events on the 2014 BFTS. It follows stops in Chicago and the 2014 BFTS season kickoff event on Jan. 3-5 at Madison Square Garden in New York. The season will conclude at the PBR Built Ford Tough World Finals in Las Vegas on Oct. 22-26 when the 2014 PBR World Champion, the bull rider who amasses the most points during the 2014 season, will receive the coveted World Championship belt buckle and a $1 million bonus.

The BFTS is televised every week on CBS, CBS Sports Network and networks around the world. BFTS telecasts are produced for the PBR under a multi-year agreement with David Neal Productions, a Los Angeles-based production company led by 34-time Emmy® Award winner and Peabody Award winner David Neal, who serves as executive producer.
